Desperate ESPN Brings Back Hank Williams Jr. To Try and Recapture the Past

Shaun King is pissed.

Newser-

“Are you ready for some football,” with the singer whose “iconic” voice left Monday Night Football six years ago? The Tennessean reports that Hank Williams Jr. has returned to ESPN’s good graces, with his signature opening and music video for a reworked “All My Rowdy Friends Are Here on Monday Night” set to appear during all Monday Night Football showings throughout next season. The video will debut with the Sept. 11 game between the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints. “I think it’s a return to our past in that it’s such an iconic song associated with football,” says Stephanie Druley, the network’s senior VP of events and studio production. “It belongs to Monday Night Football. It really is about returning to what fans know.”

Considering that Williams and ESPN broke ties in 2011 over Williams’ controversial remarks about then-President Barack Obama—in which he said Obama playing golf with then-Speaker John Boehner was “like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu,” per a CBS News article at the time—not everyone is thrilled with Williams’ return. “Really @NFL and @ESPN?” tweeted journalist and activist Shaun King. “You all are bringing Hank Williams Jr. BACK to Monday Night Football after the racist/bigoted s— he said? Really?”

  1. So they’re trying to recover the same group of viewers (patriotic Americans) that they lost because of Kaepernick’s (and some of his fellow travelers) leftist BS. I’m sure Hank Jr. is getting paid handsomely, but I doubt that this lame attempt at “redemptive good will” will do much to bring back very many of those that left because of the NFL’s leftward tilt of late – rednecks and other patriots aren’t so easily fooled.

This announcement should pretty much tell any thinking person that Kaepernick’s stunts hurt the NFL far more than they have let on despite their hollow denials.

  2. I stopped watching pro football since SJWism got its hooks into the NFL. Cut the cable last year and really could not care less. I would rather mow the lawn

  3. It would be difficult at best to hear Hank Williams Jr. singing “All My Rowdy Friends” without visualizing John Skippy, Caitlyn Jenner, Michael Sam, Colin Kaepernick, Keith Olbermann, Barney Frank and Nancy Pelosi dancing the Can-Can in the background!

  4. When Hank sings of his Rowdy Friends for espn, is he talking about the NFL highly paid, arrogant, prima donnas who abuse steroids, drugs, alcohol, beat their girl friends and wives and commit battery and murder— while the espn commentators spew progressive shit?

No thanks, Not even Bocephus can pull that rabbit out of the hat.

  5. I still remember Gretchen Carlson, bringing attention to his off-hand remark, and ASKING him to repeat it. (This happened on Faux and Fiends, remember.)
I’ve disliked her immensely ever since. :/
