Proud Day For Canadian Snipers

Using a standard Macmillian TAC-50 sniper rifle, a Canadian special forces member shot an ISIS suicide bomber from over 2 miles away in Iraq last month. It took roughly 10 seconds for the bullet to strike. The 3,871 yard shot is more than 1,000 farther than the previous record achieved in Afghanistan in 2009.

  1. Yeah … I really had to hold that sucker still …

That was actually the third time I’d done that, but the first two weren’t recorded because of … uhh … security concerns.

  2. Wikipedia says:
“hitting the target becomes subject to uncontrollable factors. For example, a rifle capable of firing a 1/2 MOA (approximately 1/2” center to center of the two holes furthest apart) 5-round group (often referred to using the verb “grouping”) at 100 yards will fire a theoretical 12.5″ group at 2500 yards. Unless the group is centered perfectly on the target at 100 yards, the 2500- yard group will be centered 25 times the off-center error at 100 yards. This example ignores all other factors and assumes “perfect” no-wind shooting conditions and identical muzzle velocities and ballistic performance for each shot.”

  3. Did he shoot into a group of bad guys and just happened to hit one or did he select an individual target and took him out? It’s not that I’m questioning the story, just interested in what exactly took place. No matter what it has a happy ending.

  4. I can’t even imagine.

@Joe, I’m with you man. Regardless, even shooting into a group that is amazing. If it was a 1 on 1 shot, then that Canuck needs to never buy his own beer ever again.

  5. Whats amazing is that the 3,871 is in a straight line, in reality that bullet probably traveled about twice that distance. Improved barrel profiles and bores, combined with some trick new glass make for some incredible results.

  6. Man, I got stuck in there reading for about 15 minutes…especially

about Carlos Hathcock(read that book 25 years ago?)

On a side note….I bet this pisses off ol’ trudeau the simpleton .

  7. I once saw a guy toss a half-dollar in the air and shoot a hole through it! THen another guy tossed the coin up and fired a shot through the same hole!! Or was that a Three Stooges episode…never mind.

  8. Couldn’t you miss several times before you get a hit?
What could the person do? It’s a man trained to take you out.
What would you hear? A high pitched noise go by?
Maybe no noise at all. I think the gun has a suppresser on it.

  9. In a war zone a person may never be able to distinguish the sound of a long range shot directed at them from the background noise of distance battle.

I imagine one has a good chance of hearing the bullet wiz by, but if you do you’re awful close to being shot.
