NEWSER) – Ivanna Krekhtyak apparently grabbed her 8-year-old daughter’s neck and squeezed until she saw no signs of life. Then the 36-year-old woman hanged herself in the basement of her home in Fairfield, Conn., police say. Sometime later, however, Krekhtyak’s daughter, Anna—who had only lost consciousness—woke up. After finding her mother’s body, the girl ran to a neighbor for help, reports the Connecticut Post. Authorities, who responded around 10:30am Saturday, are now trying to piece together the tragedy as Anna has “some memory issues with regard to exactly what occurred,” Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara tells NBC Connecticut. Despite that, he says “strangulation marks” suggest “strangulation was meant to kill her.”
Anna—who was listed in stable condition at a hospital Monday, per People—had previously contacted police at least once over fears her mother was suicidal, and she wasn’t the only one to do so. However, police say they never felt Krekhtyak’s daughter was in danger over the course of several visits to the home. During one visit, Krekhtyak told police she was depressed, but not suicidal, over her

Sounds like some NSA shit gone wrong.
May God have mercy on their souls – and for those who think suicide is a sin, I hope (and trust) that God recognizes mental illness.
izlamo delenda est …
The poor kid. Her mother probably thought that she was doing the best for the child thinking that her life without her parents would be horrible. I think the shrinks have a term for it. Anyway, I’m sure that regardless of what the church says that when someone’s life has turned so black through despair, mental illness or sorrow that they believe suicide is the only option left that God will welcome the tortured soul into his healing light.
Suicide of a parent or grandparent, or sibling, or spouse, greatly increases the likelihood of committing or attempting suicide.
Damned tragic.
Commenters on the link seemed to think ” the police” should have “done something”.
Suicidal depression is not cured by a Glock and a ride downtown.
Unless we want even more Soviet style tyrannical intrusions from Government snatching kids from parents “just in case”, these tragedies will happen.
Poor kid. I hope there are great adoptive parents out there for her.
Check out the “How do you rate this story” at the link. Would like to see the results.
Tim, once again, we have to say “put this in the hands of the Merciful Lord.” He has the answers, we don’t. Why do so many skate thru life with beauty, brains, and bank accounts? Most of us could only dream of being blessed with one of the three. Personally, I think it would be better to be satisfied, humble, loved, and grateful for the blessings the Good Lord bestowed upon each one of us. Deep sense of sorrow every time there is news of a suicide.
Cocaine’s a powerful drug.
Hope all you like, that kid needs a lot of help.
@SCR_North: Not so much the church condemning suicide as the 5th commandment. But the church does indeed take a dim view of suicide, in particular for the damage it does to those left behind, like this little girl. Having said that, only God can judge the mother and father. My guess is this family could have used a little more “church”.
@Rufus T Firefly, a close friend’s husband(also my friend) committed suicide when our kids were both 17 yrs old. Normally he was a jovial guy but became depressed about work issues and was put on Prozac or something similar. He got worse and killed himself. A few years before that, his brother killed himself and I remember my friend’s husband talking to me about it and he was devastated and kind of angry at him for it, telling me how it was selfish. And then he did the same thing. I was shocked, to say the least.
@cowgirl, there are studies on how a suicide in a family predisposes other family to the same. Such complex dynamics. This little girl is at huge risk now. Depression is often inheritable so she really does need a good wise home.
Every suicide is a loss. Some seem unpreventable. Antidepressants generally are more Curse than Cure.
I’m sticking with drug related. Wait for the autopsy report.
@Rufus T Firefly, all this time I could never understand it. I remember feeling relieved he didn’t take his family with him and he did have the decency to kill himself away from the house.
I tried to prevent the second attempt at suicide when I learned the first attempt was foiled. This was a good family friend who was days away from his deathbed from an incurable disease. This friend’s sibling, in essence, but in not so many words, told me suicide was okay, and stay out of it. There is more, but to this day I feel I should have risked intervening, although two clergymen told me after if deed, that under the circumstances of pain involved, our friend might have killed me . Still is no consolation for me.
The girl’s parents both had mental issues and the girl probably inherited the same traits. I don’t know if professional help will give this girl a leg up on life. Some people who go through professional help end up killing themselves. I’m not going to judge anyone for killing themselves, but I’ll judge what they left behind.
We can never know the depth of despair or a persons’ inner demons that bring them to the ultimate act to stop their pain.
The loved ones left behind are forever marked by guilt, shame, anger, unanswered questions. What could I have done? Why didn’t I see this coming? What was so awful that death was the only option?
Contrary to some belief, no where in the Bible does God mention suicide as an unforgivable sin, condemning the eternal soul to hades.
I believe anyone who chooses this act has had a mental break from reality.
May God wrap his loving arms around this little one and protect and guide her, as only He can.
It’s obvious. Trump derangement syndrome.
