Bad Day For CNN – Ted Cruz Weighs In Citing Laws CNN May Have Broken

Twitchy:

Man. CNN’s day just keeps getting worse. Their reputation was already swirling the bowl,

and then they decided to go after an anonymous creator of a gif that hurt their feelings. And then it turns out that they may have targeted the wrong guy!

Well, believe it or not, there’s much farther to fall. According to Ted Cruz, CNN may have actually broken the law:

(1/2) Troubling. I assume CNN’s lawyers are examining GA § 16-8-16 Theft by extortion. If CNN constructively obtained the gif-maker’s IP…

(2/2) it’s a GA crime if they threatened to “Disseminate any information tending to subject any person to hatred, contempt, or ridicule….” https://twitter.com/thedcpolitics/status/882464270851555330

(1/3) Another relevant crim law: NY § 135.60: “A person is guilty of coercion in the second degree when he…induces a person…” https://twitter.com/thedcpolitics/status/882464270851555330

(2/3) “to abstain from engaging in conduct in which he…has a legal right to engage…by means of instilling…a fear…the actor will…” https://twitter.com/thedcpolitics/status/882464270851555330

(3/3)”Expose a secret or publicize an asserted fact, whether true or false, tending to subject some person to hatred, contempt or ridicule.” https://twitter.com/thedcpolitics/status/882464270851555330

  1. Been expecting this. Doxxing is a crime in many States. CNN is liable everywhere it operates, not just Atlanta HQ.

Having Sen. Cruz point this out is extra tasty.

Lots of State Attorneys General would enjoy the career boost of taking a chunk out of CNN.
Blackmail’s a federal crime also. Paging DoJ.

    Winning.

  2. 18 U.S. Code § 241 – Conspiracy against rights.

If two or more persons conspire to injure, oppress, threaten, or intimidate any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District in the free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege secured to him by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or because of his having so exercised the same; or
If two or more persons go in disguise on the highway, or on the premises of another, with intent to prevent or hinder his free exercise or enjoyment of any right or privilege so secured—
They shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, they shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death.

  3. Indiana Jones as DJT.
    In a fistfight GIF.
With any random Nazt as CNN.

Or that original Raiders scene, the huge sword-wielding marketplace Arab as CNN.

Or the little Gestapo man as CNN. And he holds up his scarred palm. Instead of the medallion burn it’s a MAGA logo.

    Limitless possibilities.

  4. David Horowitz summed it up perfectly. To beat these people you have to provoke them. Trump has an uncanny knack for sending them into a blinding rage and they abandon all caution and expose themselves for who they truly are. Trump is obliterating them.

  5. Czar of Defenestration,

    18 U.S. Code § 241 – Conspiracy against rights.

…….unless your a Blue State politician. Heck, even some Red state politicians are guilty.

It’s what politicians do best; conspire against our rights codified under that US Constitution; conspire against God; conspire against anything that ain’t YET at the mercy of the state.

  6. I suspect that this crap has now reached the executive suites at Time-Warner and AT&T and somebody is asking for the name of the person who hired Jeff Zucker. The person who hired Jeff Zucker is now frantically trying to convince the brass that Zucker should be sacrificed because he lied to them about the direction he was going to take the network. In the meantime the execudroids have activated the divestitures staff to have a look at the whole Turner Group. Now could be the time that some people like the Koch Brothers could perhaps step in.

  7. Threatening this guy is not blackmail, but criminal coercion.

I’d love to see them lose their license to broadcast. That’s what should happen here. It would send shockwaves thru the libstain media.

  8. Agreed. This is a great justification for suspending their broadcast license. For say, 10 days. With public notice that a second offense will be 30 days. Or 60, or a year.

Even a few days is a death sentence. They’d have to fold completely.

    The threat alone changes everything.
