I don’t think any of us here are fans of Time’s politics. I’m certainly not. But I am enjoying a series they have put out – 100 Photos.
If you hover over the iconic photos some of them have film icons which indicate that they have a short documentary about their creation.
I’m a sucker for a documentary.
O-M-G they left out Bill Clinton.
I wish Time would have used the photo of Kagan kneeling over the dropped pizza.
The descriptions on many of these pics (see: Windblown Jackie or Mapplethorpe) just somewhat highlight what jerks many of these photographers really were.
Aaron Burr, is that you?
I spotted “Doc” Edgerton right away; believe it or not I recognized his face. My father knew him slightly, and I’m told I met him once but I have no memory of it. I’ve been fascinated and captivated by his pioneering ultra-ultra-high-speed photography virtually my whole life. Still am.
I just couldn’t face looking at the other stuff after getting sucked into the Edgerton video. Thanks a million, BFH!
What? No pics related to Ronald Reagan forcing the Soviets to “Tear Down This Wall!” but a pillow fight with the Beatles and a selfie at the Oscars?
The majority of the photos either document progressive causes or condemn the traditional west.
Many iconic images there. Some are actually helpful for understanding humanity and history. Some, not so much. Maplethorpe picture and guy dying of AIDS? No connection offered. I don’t know. Much worshipping of liberal iconography there.
I don’t care for their politics either, but this is a treasure!
What? No picture of Kerry serving in Viet Nam?
All these photos of historic events, and Brian Williams isn’t in any of them???
Naked, pregnant Demi Moore? Really?
No ISIS BEHEaDINGS, Burned to death on a cage, children forced to execute prisoners, female slave market?
And to think that Whittaker Chambers wrote for Time back in the 40’s and 50’s. My times have changed.
The one which caught my heart was the young Jewish boy surrendering to the Nazi’s in Warsaw.

The AIDS one wasn’t so much about AIDS as it was about the exploitation of things like AIDS to be used in a clothing ad.
That image was used by Benetton, and it was very controversial at the time.
The left out berry sotero, now the collection is moot.
Capt. Jim Lovell personally signed a poster to the wife and I for Earthwise, #5 on the list. We moved to FL and think the movers stole it.
We both grew up watching the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs.
