Mom warns others after 1-year-old tests positive for herpes virus

FOX: The mother of a 1-year-old boy who tested positive for the herpes virus said she doesn’t know who gave it to her son, and is now warning other parents to be cautious about who touches their child.

“It sucks because it’s a lifelong problem now,” Samantha Rodgers told Fox 12 Oregon of her son’s diagnosis. “I don’t know how to handle this. I am trying my best. It breaks my heart, and I can’t do anything to help him.”

  1. My grandson had that when he was 4-5. He was so miserable, and I was so mad I couldn’t stand it. It took a couple weeks to run its course. The first exposure to herpes can really hit hard.

  2. It is good to try to avoid contacting the virus, but it is so widespread, it is nearly impossible to avoid. My father was very diligent in trying to protect us (all eight) but before we reached adolescence, we had all had cold sores.

Some kids react very badly to their first infection, while others are hardly noticeable. That is part of the problem. Most carriers don’t think much of it, as it doesn’t impact them significantly.

Unfortunately, all herpes strains never go away. Chicken pox comes back as shingles, and shingles sufferers are contagious. Herpes simplex 1 flareups can be quite debilitating in later years.

The best defense is good hygiene and trying to stay healthy and avoid stress. Latent herpes flairs up when the body is stressed in some way. Fortunately, there are now antivirals available, as well as some herbal remedies that have proven successful in alleviating the discomfort, intensity and length of flareups. No cure yet.

  3. It used to be every baby born in hospital had his eyes treated with mercury at birth, IIRC it was to prevent herpes blindness from the birth canal.

The herpesviruses are a real bitch that have been around for thousands of years. Still no cure.

  4. 💢 EAT KIMCHI 💢

I used to have those little white ulcers on the inside of my lips, and one time going all the way to the back of my throat. I couldn’t swallow food or water without crying in pain for about a week.

I found out, B-COMPLEX prevents and cures it. So, I have taken B-Complex pills and eat Kimchi which is an excellent source of Vit. B and probiotics.

Haven’t gotten it since. It’s been several years, thank God.

  5. It’s not mercury, it’s an ophthalmic ointment of erythromycin against pink eye which can cause blindness in new born babies. It also covers against Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and e.coli.

  6. No, not mercury but a metal salt – silver nitrate. A 1-2% soln. An antique treatment mode to be sure, but who knows? It worked, still does and e-mycin may become ineffective in time.
