Back in the 70s I had a 1958 VW panel van, but I never put one of those stupid stickers on it.
Bad Brad, the VW Thing was originally called a Kubelwagen, designed by Ferdinand Porsche in the late 1930’s as a small vehicle to transport German troops similar to an American jeep. They were based on a VW Beetle body without the doors and used just like jeeps were by the Nazis. Maybe, this should be what we really call Hitler’s revenge, the original Kubelwagen and it’s 1970’s trendy counterpart. There’s still a few of the VW Things running around this part of the country, I see them occasionally. I never cared for them though, to me it was just another VW. But if you wanted to give me (or I could find) an early 70’s vintage red Karman Ghia convertible in good shape I’d drive it in a heartbeat.
