Omaha-An associate pastor at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church has been dismissed from the parish after asking middle school students during confession if they masturbated or watched pornography.
It was later discovered that he had asked fifth- and sixth-graders “similar inappropriate questions” during confession Wednesday, though those questions were worded more vaguely, such as “have you ever viewed or watched inappropriate shows or videos?”
“I think he was trying to get them to really discern and be in touch with any sinful behavior they had,” McNeil said. “So I think it was a case of, from what we know right now, a case of trying to be too helpful.”
Sure, he was just being very helpful.
Is this innocent naivety on the part of the spox, or is this the continuing whitewashing and coverup of questionable church business?
There is a public relations problem that the church should be very aware of, but they seem to exist in an alternate reality.

If one were to draw a Venn diagram with priests in one circle and homosexuals in the second circle, they would almost overlap. Yet when there is any news of child abuse the news is always about the priest portion. Never about the homosexual part of the diagram.

The Catholic confessional is NOT to be used to PRY about behavior, just LISTEN and proscribe penance. The confessor spills their guts and no cross-examination of details is given…..EVER. No laundry-list of POSSIBLE sins is ever offered, it’s not protocol. It’s only from the conscience of the sinner.

When people began to question the priests and Catholic church hundreds of years ago , the Catholic Church destroyed 94 % of our written world history by Fire ! Oh yeah, they broke everyones reading glasses for the same reason !
Hey, I grew up in a Catholic Church. And when I became an adult married, and moved to a town with a strong Catholic identity, I left the Catholic Church for a a more Biblical church that was much more God-like.

@Bad_Brad, It’s an unaffiliated Biblical church. We believe in the Bible. No denomination. There is truth, and there is deception. I am happy that truth is being spoken in my church. I teach Sunday school and my daughter is a youth leader.

Interesting. Sounds like a “Community Church”. We have one that’s pretty well established here that sounds similar to what you describe. Maybe give it a roll this Sunday. We have some great friends we’ve met through the Catholic Church. And socially we all bitch about the Catholic Church. Needless to say, I’m odd man out. LOL
