Absolute Stone Cold Hero – Afghan Police Lt. Sayed Basam Pacha

It would be a shame to not remember this guy’s name. Who is he, and what did he do?

Newser-

Fourteen people were killed Thursday when an ISIS-aligned suicide bomber detonated his explosive vest outside a hall in Kabul, Afghanistan, Thursday. But many more would have died were it not for Afghan Police Lt. Sayed Basam Pacha. Pacha suspected the man was a bomber and told him to stop; when the man started running, Pacha ran to him and gave him what the New York Times refers to as a “bear hug.” The man detonated the bomb, killing Pacha and the others and wounding 18 more. Pacha is “a hero, he saved many lives” by blunting the force of the explosion, police spokesperson Basir Mujahed tells the Times.

“My son sacrificed himself to save other people,” Pacha’s father, Gen. Sayed Nizam Agha, said through tears. Pacha was guarding a political meeting at the hall at the time; high-profile political figures were in attendance. At one point he was inside the hall drinking tea with guests, but he made sure to go back to the gate as people started exiting the event.

  1. A shame he had to pay the ultimate price to stop that animal. More the shame because that level of heroism is a rarity and the man will not easily be replaced in a place where he was so desperately needed.

  2. We’ll never know what went through Sayed’s mind in those last moments of his life. But we do know the process. Recognize a threat. Decide. That one right there is the one that defined the man.We don’t know if he was figuring the odds of stopping the detonation, reducing the effect, or just throwing himself into an impossible situation. Act. This is where he committed. Completely.

I’ll sing him a song at sundown today. Count my self poorer for not having known him.

  3. No wonder he acted as he did. Look where and how he was raised, in a military environment by a General.
Even though you will never read this, my condolences on the loss of your son, sir. He was a treasure and a jewel in your life. His kind will never be replaced. May God give you peace and solace that your son lost his life by saving others lives.

  4. (Nervously looking down at her feet trying to ignore the event, the liberal finally looks up and declares:)

“Not ALL Muslims are terrorists you bigot!

(Sigh) Bravo. You’ve saved the world from a generalization…

There are brave men, bright men, loyal men, everywhere. They, those men, don’t feel compelled to go a Viking (looting — and other “social” activities), elsewhere. Period. Full stop.
