Powerful Disney Exec Has Sexual Harassment Reckoning

The man who rose to be as powerful as Walt Disney at the famous studio, John Lasseter, released a statement yesterday that he was taking a “leave” from his job as Chief Creative Officer for Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studio and Disney Toon Studios.

There had been a whisper campaign for decades among the female staff that John was a “hugger.” As Lasseter was entrusted with more control over the studios his behavior became more inappropriate. Those who covered for his misbehavior described him as being an “overgrown boy,” but one who created a “culture at Pixar as toxic for women.”

  1. Not defending the guy, mind you, but I’ve had co-workers (both male and female) who were “huggers”. Pretty much everyone just accepted that fact. A few (always female, oddly enough) were even “smoochers” on occasion, but only on the cheek, never on the mouth. I’m betting this guy started out as a hugger, and when he got no complaints, slowly worked his way up to where he is today.

    This could probably been nipped in the bud early on if anyone had had the huevos to say something to him about it, but that’s easier said than done when he’s the boss.
