Rep. Thomas Massie Sounds Warning: House Leaders to Merge Obama-Style Gun Control with National Reciprocity

Breitbart: Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) is warning that House Leadership plans to merge Obama-style gun control with national reciprocity for concealed carry.

This news comes just days before Rep. Richard Hudson’s (R-NC) national reciprocity legislation, H.R. 38, is supposed to go the House floor for a vote.

Massie explains that the Obama-style gun controls are contained in the “fix-NICS” legislation, the very legislation that House Leadership “plans to merge” with H.R. 38. He used a Facebook post to explain the “fix-NICS” legislation would allow “agencies, not just courts, to adjudicate your second amendment rights.”

He expounds:

[“Fix-NICS”] encourages administrative agencies, not the courts, to submit more names to a national database that will determine whether you can or can’t obtain a firearm. When President Obama couldn’t get Congress to pass gun control, he implemented a strategy of compelling, through administrative rules, the Veterans Administration and the Social Security Administration to submit lists of veterans and seniors, many of whom never had a day in court, to be included in the NICS database of people prohibited from owning a firearm. Only a state court, a federal (article III) court, or a military court, should ever be able to suspend your rights for any significant period of time.

Massie does not name names, but presumes that some are seeking to add the gun control legislation as a way of “to ensure reciprocity will pass in the Senate.” Yet he believes it is a foolish attempt to gain the support of Senators like Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who will not support national reciprocity legislation “even if it contains the fix-NICS legislation they support for expanding the background check database.”  read more

  1. This is great, if you have a legal concealed carry permit all states will recognize your right to carry. However, no one gets a concealed carry permit unless some liberal bureaucrat says you can. This is not who we are.

  2. Yeah, let’s trust the VA who continue to hire felons themselves and have managed things so well. That will mean that they will be turning in soldiers with PTSD which in turn, the soldier will not seek treatment and in turn the suicide rate will go up. Great thinking Congress. Y’all can go to hell too.

  3. Wow! What a surprise!
The sneaking, shit-wad, totalitarians are gonna pull a bait-and-switch?
Just like ObolaCare, Socialist Security, MediScam, and the rest of that shit, they figure that once saddled, we’ll stay saddled.

And the sad part is; it’s probably a safe assumption.

We don’t seem to mind a bit and bridle if we’re convinced that somebody, somewhere, (other than us) is deriving some mysterious benefit from our loss of Liberty.

    izlamo delenda est …

  4. I just don’t trust the feds having control of reciprocity. It is too easy to add ammmendnents, which will further deplete states’ rights! It sounds like a positive move, but almost NOTHING the feds control is positive. It’ll be the beginning of national gun control. Guaranteed.

  5. They already have bastardized the 2nd amendment, yet people are satisfied with state controlled, permit buying (tax) and permission to exercise their rights stated in the 2nd amendment.

Where does “Shall NOT Infringe” come into play, outside of the lawless federal and state government ignoring the Constitution?

Don’t want to name names? How about progressive Ryan, the supposed “leader” of the house.

Yes, you “may” get reciprocity…..at what price?

  6. The Deep State (Congress) will do whatever it can to nullify the 2nd amendment.

The SCOTUS ruled that all states must recognize another state’s same sex marriages under the Equal Protection and Due Process clauses of the 14th amendment.

Using those same clauses and reasoning of the SCOTUS allows for concealed carry in every state w/o more legislation.

  7. And the MSM will call the reciprocity part a ‘poison pill’ designed to get the ‘common sense gun control’ passed by those evil mean Republicans who wants rich white men to be able to kill chillren at will. Which is sort of like abortion doctors…

  8. Burner, the reciprocity and the fix NICS are poison pills for the D’s and the R’s, in order to kill both pieces of legislation while being able to claim the other side did it. That’s handy with the elections coming up.

    > But the congressvermin who are behind this and who let it happen will pay the heaviest possible political price.

No, Uncle Al. It’s already December. Softball season is over.

  10. Why should anyone have to have a permit anyway to carry a gun?

If the Constitution was followed anyone could own and carry a gun, they wouldn’t be asking for permission from the government.
