McCain returns to Arizona, won’t vote on GOP tax bill: report

TheHill- Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is reportedly returning to Arizona and will miss the final vote on his party’s tax bill this week.

McCain, who has been hospitalized at Walter Reed Medical Center suffering from the side effects of his treatment for brain cancer, left Washington, D.C., on Sunday to return home for the holidays, CBS News reported Sunday.

This means he will not be in D.C. for the GOP tax bill vote, which is expected to take place early in the week. Republicans have won over two key votes for the measure, meaning they should still have the razor-thin majority needed to pass the bill.

The Hill has reached out to McCain’s office for confirmation.

President Trump confirmed the report Sunday evening upon his return to the White House from Camp David, suggesting that McCain is willing to return to the Hill if his vote becomes key for passing the bill.

“I understand he’ll come if we ever needed his vote, which hopefully we won’t. But the word is John will come back if we need his vote,” Trump told reporters, adding that the Arizona lawmaker is “going through very tough time.”

The senator’s daughter, Meghan McCain, tweeted shortly after the news broke that she and her family are “looking forward to spending Christmas together in Arizona.”

“My father is doing well,” she said.  more

  1. McCain might redeem himself?

If he needed to fly back and cast a “yes” vote on this, I think he could at least partially redeem himself before he swirls the drain.

I am not sure why he doesn’t just resign, and be replaced by some Senator that is likely to be a Republican.

  2. My father is doing well,” [daughter Meghan] said.

    That’s the kiss of death.

I participate in sweasel’s Dead Pool and another guy, carl, has been winning waaaay more than anybody else. His system is not to enter the pool right away as soon as it opens, but instead to keep scanning the news for some well-known person who’s been in the hospital and just released. If a family member says anything like “He’s doing fine!” then that’s his pick.

So, McCain’s shouldn’t see the new year, and maybe not even Christmas.

  3. The governor of AZ is a Republican, I don’t know how conservative he is, but a statesman would resign and let the governor appoint t a temp replacement before calling a special election. The business of the country would come first.
But not with this selfish evil bastard.

  4. I am mature enough to not wish ill will on most anyone. However, in this case I can not help but wish that phucking POS is met by Satan himself when his time comes. He is, without a doubt, a liberal that infiltrated the Republican Party.

  5. I have a particular contempt for those who would “wield power.” Thanks for your service, John. I served, too (Navy). I’m also a cancer survivor (renal cell). If you’re in Hospice Care, you have about 2 weeks left (they’ll withhold fluids from you to expedite your passing). I wish you well, hope you get right with God, but I don’t serve the State.

  6. A STATESMAN would have resigned as soon as he got the diagnosis, not stick around to put his thumb in the President’s eye at every opportunity.

Maybe he’s going to let Corker shoot down the tax reform as a Christmas present to Bob.

  7. I would’ve bet two weeks ago that McCain wasn’t going to support the tax plan. There was no way he was going to support something that put any positive light on Trump. That he’s doing it under the auspices of medical reasoning is convenient, nothing more. It’s a real shame that his past year of undercutting Trump at every opportunity removes all ability or desire to give him the benefit of the doubt.

  8. dear Lord,

please make mccains last days amongst humanity as benign as his previous days and let him not suffer long in his illness.

also please bury him next to jane fonda and john kerry.

also please provide a free bus ride to and from the grave for all living vietnam vets and provide free beer refreshment for the vets in the waiting line set up
    for giving their last respects.

    amen

  9. @ bill,
I’m with you 100%. In fact, I would personally pay for a fountain adjacent to those 3 graves, so that all visitors could hear the trickling cool waters of that fountain. 😉

  10. Just one more example of the selfish uselessness of a RINO.
If he cared about America he would vote.
If he cared about Arizona he would vote and then resign.

It’s obvious that he suffers some sort of “dog in the manger” dementia and his staff is assisting.

Oh, well. Hell has awaited him a long time, a few more weeks won’t make any difference.

    izlamo delenda est …
