Does The US Pay Over 20 Percent Of The UN Budget?

Daily Caller: Former White House advisor Sebastian Gorka claimed the U.S. pays over 20 percent of the U.N. budget on “Fox & Friends” Saturday.

“We are paying more than 20 percent of the U.N.’s budget. If you look at the peacekeeping activities, the military side of the house, we are paying almost a third, 28 percent,” said Gorka.

Verdict: True

The U.S. must pay 22 percent of the U.N. budget for 2016 to 2018. The U.S. contributes an even higher share for some agencies within the U.N.

Fact Check:

The U.N. determines required contribution levels for each member state based on factors like gross national income and debt. Based on this calculation, the U.S. paid 22 percent of the U.N.’s $5.4 billion budget for 2016 and 2017, the maximum contribution allowed. State Department documents confirm the U.S. allocated $1.2 billion toward the budget during these years.

U.S. funding of U.N. operations is under scrutiny after 128 member states voted to condemn President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital Thursday. Trump threatened to cut U.S. funding to countries that voted for the resolution.

U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley called the resolution disrespectful, particularly because the U.S. pays more than any other country to the U.N. “When we make generous contributions to the U.N., we also have a legitimate expectation that our good will is recognized and respected,” she said in remarks before the U.N. General Assembly Thursday.

Then Haley announced Sunday that the U.S. had negotiated a $285 million cut for the U.N.’s 2018-2019 budget. The new budget “reduced the UN’s bloated management and support functions, bolstered support for key U.S. priorities throughout the world, and instilled more discipline and accountability throughout the U.N system,” according to a statement from Haley’s office.

Some argue the U.S. contribution share is reasonable since the U.S. accounts for about a quarter of the world’s income. The next-highest contributors to the U.N. budget are Japan at 9.7 percent and China at 7.9 percent, although China holds the second-largest share of world income at 14 percent.  Keep reading

  1. The real question is: How much of the money we give to other nations under the guise of aid etc… is then given to the UN? Turn that rock over and I’ll bet you’ll find 20% is a very, very conservative estimate. The UN is a Ponzi Scheme of the highest degree.

  2. I’m sure Snopes, Politifact and the rest will be along shortly to claim Gorka is wrong, and that our contribution is insignificant. Fine. Obviously, the UN does not need our paltry tithe to survive.

  3. True, Claw of Bluegrass. That’s why the threat to cut US foreign aid to the beggar viper nations is causing such a panic. It will be devastating to many international leftist slush funds.

  4. “Millions for defense; not one cent for tribute.”

Fuck the Maggots. All of them. Greasy, destitute, oppressors; corrupters of civilization, women, and small children.
UN “Relief” Organizations are little more than elaborate pedophile rings.

We’ve been selling our birthright to the Globaloney-ists (both foreign and domestic) for 3 generations, and enough is more than enough.

Mr. Trump – Put Up This Wall!
    (to paraphrase President Reagan)

  5. I envision the UN in an aging strip mall somewhere in Brussels. We should shrink their footprint since they sit on our soil. I suggest we have them meet when we call them for a meeting. Otherwise, the entire cabal stay in their own countries.

  6. Guessing 150 nations participate in the UN.

We are in an era that equality rules the roost.

    $5.3 Billion Divided by 150= $35.3 Million.

I’m all in on equality, the US Share becomes $35.3 million.
No more and it could certainly be less.

We as Taxpayers should not be funding entities who advocate policies and governments hostile to the US.

  7. So I’m in a New York Taxi near the U.N when we pull up to a new Town Car with a skinny central African looking driver, windows down my driver says ” nice wheels U.N ? ” The Chimp like guy say’s ” oh yea I get to drive a brand new one Twice a Year “.
I wanted to fly out the window and shake reality int’o Chimpy !

  8. The world’s well, paid appointed elite and their UN playground with impunity.

Speeding, traffic tickets, theft, drug use, corruption, sexual harassment, battery, rape, espionage…..no problem just flash your UN diplomatic immunity card.
    Don’t leave home without it.

It’s much more valuable than a race card.

  9. Cato : I couldn’t agree more, the Way they live is disgusting.
They bring with them their Cultures worse traits, take their Free Passes and Cash bonuses away, and they are just Criminals !

  10. DJT should consider donating to the UN an aging aircraft carrier for its headquarters. There’d be plenty of room on the hangar deck for meeting rooms and assembly halls, and there’s lots of bunk space. Not to mention its own build-in airstrip on top. Sail it into the Bermuda Triangle, drop anchor, and remove the propellers.

  11. The UN was set up to be the broadcast booth of the 5 permanent members of the Security Council: USA, CCCP, UK, France, and China. We thought, at that time, that the “free” world (represented by USA, UK, and France) were in the lion’s seat against the communists – or “slave” world. We didn’t (or DID) understand that the UK and France were teetering on the brink of socialism, which we deludedly insisted was some milk-toast form of communism – hiding the facts that National Socialism (recently defeated) Soviet Socialism (recently victorious) and Fascism (Italian socialism – also recently defeated) are all just branches of the same tree – whose root is world-wide tyranny. France and the UK have been half-assed Parliamentary Republics for 200 years or so and vacillated between hard and soft socialism, and thus the US found itself in a 4 to 1 minority – which we tried to hide behind a misleading press – and, of course, there were plenty of traitorous Americans to promote Globaloney.

So we’re in the cesspool up to our armpits with the storm-crows crying “disaster” every time we try to crawl out.

Haley is threatening to cut the UN payoffs by 3.5% (assuming that our “portion” and our “donations” to NGOs and other bullshit ripoffs totals $8 Billion, or so) and the maggots are running scared, knowing that President Trump isn’t known for “red lines” that are illusions and preemptive surrenders like Obola – in other words; that President Trump isn’t an American traitor, as is Obola – or to be less judgmental, President Trump isn’t the Globaloney-ist that Obola is.

  12. The UN was a pipe dream of FDR. He said “if we give Stalin everything he wants and ask nothing in return, he will see how good we are and stop being a psychotic mass murderer and behave like a naive rich pampered NY liberal.”
Unfortunately FDR was wrong and gave uncle Joe 40+ years of Soviet domination over 1/2 of the world.
    OOPS.
