I don’t think there is any question how this is going to turn out. And it’s about time.
Unions can be good, powerful forces. But, just like a charity, a business, or any other organization they have to prove their value every day. With mandatory enrollment unions do not have to earn their dues, and as a result the very people they are supposed to represent get the shaft.
That scion of conservatism, FDR, was against public unions. And with good reason; public unions have been disastrous for government, and local government in particular.
There is no parity in bargaining; government officials aren’t spending their money, and there is no incentive to be fiscally responsible. So I propose a compromise: public unions and the government can bargain, but any agreement must be put to a referendum of the voters. With regard to public pensions, San Francisco already has this regulation (it was passed decades ago), although in the past few years San Francisco voters have ratified massive pension increases and are now underfunded because liberals are stupid. But at least San Francisco voters can blame themselves.
Should be charged under RICO statutes, tried, and executed.

The keystone to keeping our government honest is well educated citizens. Public K-12 needs to do a much better job. The USA was the leader in educating our children, unfortunately the USA is not in the top 20. Teacher unions have a to do with our low ranking.
