And even at this late stage, it just wants to drive out the criminals. But if the criminals attack them, the vigilantes will no longer passively resist, but use whatever means they need to, to drive the criminals out, or even kill them.
Yet ironically, for the situation to develop in the first place, criminals and corrupt government are dependent on disarming the public as a whole, so that only criminals and the corrupt government have guns. For if the citizenry are armed, they will defend themselves against criminals, to the detriment of the criminals.
And this leads to a prospect that corrupt government does not want to be known: that it is the public who are the police, not just government’s uniformed hirelings. And in the final analysis, the public are the government, not the self-important representatives and bureaucrats.
