Elected Official Provides Wrong Name To Police and Whines They Were Racist When She’s Detained

“Their behavior revealed their lack of understanding.” – Lady from a country where they have lotsa names and that is “their culture.”

Oregon Live

A Latina elected official says she spent several hours in jail last week after an encounter with police that began over an alleged TriMet fare evasion and ended with a charge of providing a false name to officers.

In a Facebook post, Ana del Rocío said she was stopped by officers March 13 after exiting a MAX train and forgetting her annual TriMet pass.

“They spelled my last name incorrectly while searching for me in their systems. They then accused me of lying when their search results turned up nothing,” del Rocío wrote in a Facebook post now shared more than 900 times. “Their behavior revealed their lack of understanding: of Latinx culture, our names, common spellings, and naming traditions. My name is Ana and they did not believe me.”

Latino naming traditions often include two surnames – in this case, Ana del Rocío Valderrama. Her legal name is listed as Rosa Valderrama, though she told the Portland Mercury she has never gone by Rosa.

“This isn’t justice served. This is over-policing.”

She is also the state director for Color PAC, a political action committee focused on equity issues. A statement on the Color PAC website described del Rocío’s arrest as “overreach by the police that was unnecessary, demeaning, and racialized.”

“What happened to Ana has happened—and happens—to so many people of color, people in poverty and people with disabilities across Oregon,” the statement read. “Everyday missteps become crimes. Our trip-ups become life-changing events.”

!snip!

Hey, Queen LatiNa. In OUR culture we provide our legal name to the police, not the name we prefer to be called. Got that?

It’s an overreach to say this was racial.

It’s not an overreach to think that I don’t want people coming to this country if they have multiple names and no one knows what their background is.

You go, Fur! ….Lady in Red

  2. If you go to the comments on Olive and sort by most liked it starts off with this:

Lets review, shall we, based on the facts in the Portland Mercury:

    1. del Rocío is caught by the cops on a MAX platform without a valid fare.

    2. She refuses to provide ID when asked.

    3. She refuses to provide her legal name, but instead provides a different name. She is repeatedly warned to provide her legal name, refuses to do so, and is arrested. She denounces the cops for misspelling the legal name that she refused to provide.

    4. She develops the novel legal theory that the cops can’t ask Latinos for their legal name, because they have so many different alternative names.

“Her legal name is listed as Rosa Valderrama, though she told the Portland Mercury she has never gone by Rosa.”

Any guesses what name is on her driver’s license?

The bitch is a known commodity in and around Portland. There are almost 250 comments posted under the story and you have to get way down into them before you find any defending her actions. She is the typical “community leader” that the Oregonian identifies as such. Her rise to leadership was not organic and she was not selected by the community she purports to be leader of, those people were frozen out by the Oregonian and the Democrat Party who wanted her as the leader of a large constituency group. The true leaders who rose organically cannot get their message out and this is what they are left with.

  3. If I were in politics in Portland and I opposed her this would be my next step: So was someone else using the transit card she signed paperwork stating she would not trade, loan, sell etc

Hint, this can be tracked. I have done it in the past and I would not put it past her to have participated in fraud by allowing a relative to use it. You can’t be in two places at once and if the card was being used and she was not where she could be tagging the card herself, but the card was tagged… gotch’a

  4. @JDHasty: I call those like her the “professional” Latina/Native American/Black/African-American/Gay/Whatever – those selected by the statists in power to “represent” the group the statists want to claim are “aggrieved”, while the actual members of those groups are just trying to get by and be left the he** ALONE.

It’s all about power, baby; political and otherwise.

  5. The Right needs to stop embracing the Left’s lie that being Hispanic makes you a different race. Caucasian, Asian, Negro. There’s only three “races” of mankind. There’s no new suddenly discovered fourth race. Hispanics are Caucasians, along with Scandinavians, Slavs, Gaels and Basques.

Time for her to self deport herself back to that trailer in Tijuana.
She should try giving Mexican police a false alias. After the 48 hour gang rape, her remains would wind up in a shallow hole. Along so many others.
And why hasn’t La Raza been declared a criminal organization already? It’s all about human trafficking, identity theft and Cartel drug smuggling. Plenty there to indict, if we had an Attorney General…

  6. I guess she doesn’t have a driver’s license if she jumping turnstiles in the train station. If only there was some other form of State-issued ID she could carry…

  7. So multiple names is part of her culture? Well wouldn’t that be cultural self-chauvinism? I mean how would you like it if we came down to your country and started making you learn English?

This woman is playing the race card and getting away with it. It’s time to demand some accountability. Illegal alien hispanics are always doing this. From now on, they should all have their birth certificates tatooed on their rear-ends.

As for your comments JD, I agree. I bet she is pulling something with her ID.

  8. This is rich.
“The DAs should understand that names and identity can be fluid throughout a person’s life,” says Juan C. Chavez, a civil rights lawyer who is not representing del Rocío. “Not everyone can afford to or has the time to change their name through the court system. We shouldn’t criminalize self-identity.”

I invite him to investigate how fluid or casual the whole name thing is when it comes to vehicle registration, mortgage ownership, property taxes or hospital records are. GMAFB.

You’ve got to wonder how much victim attitude she gave the police, that they became so exasperated.

  9. Forgot to include in my comment the last bit of the story from OregonLive:
“Records show del Rocío, under the name Rosa Valderrama, received a no fare citation – and no arrest – on March 1. The citation notes it will be dismissed with proof of yearly pass.”

  10. If you’ve ever worked in social services (and I have) or the criminal justice system the “latino name suffle” is a common problem. Not only does a hispanic client or perp have several names, most (illegals) have the exact same name because it’s a name that “clears” the system without crinimal charges attached – unlike their actual names IF known.
