Friday night an opera about wounded soldiers premiered at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Forth Worth. Titled, “The Falling and the Rising,” the early reviews compared the piece to something closer to Steven Sondheim. There are two more performances scheduled for today at 2:00 and 4:00 pm for those in the Dallas / Fort Worth area.

I suspect this is the closest the U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus has come to combat arms.
Turning real personal tragedies of war into an opera by those who haven’t had the experience, who in turn will use those personal tragedies to entertain and enlighten those who choose not to serve?
