TV footage taken of the Russian made military transport plane showed flames coming from one of the aircraft’s wings as it was taking off. The Ilyushin Il-76 came down soon after in a nearby farm field, killing 257 military personal, and their families. The Algerian army aircraft was headed for the nation’s border with Western Sahara.
