Footage of the Gorilla Giving Birth in Captivity is Kinda Gross

A gorilla has given birth in captivity, a very rare event, and it’s not pleasant to watch.

The gorilla grasps the baby by the head and yanks. That’s when the nausea begins as the mother sucks the snot (or whatever it is) out of the baby’s nose.

And there’s all sorts of Rice Krispie-like noises. Some sites were billing this as the mother “kissing” the baby. Uh uh.

See here.

It’s not snot, it’s placental fluids. Us humans have a nice little plastic bulb to suck that shit out. Same thing though. Any new life amazes me.

  2. As someone who supports abortion, when appropriate, I thought this was kinda cool. It’s amazing, albeit eye watering, what females can pull off, even without hospitals and midwives.

Looks like this momma has the right instincts. Not all females do.

  3. BFH, I promise to never show you other animals giving birth and eating the sack and licking up all the fluids and then eating the placenta.

It always makes me grateful women have things like blankets, towels, scissors and aspirators. I’m not so sure I could have given birth if they told me I had to clean them with my tongue, suck out the fluids with my mouth, chew through the cord or eat the placenta. Some women though seem to like eating the placenta. 🙂

  4. @BBB:

…and there is no shame. The Albuquerque Biopark (zoo) is offering a 2-hour tour focusing on animal “romances”. Adult beverages and appetizers are included in the $32 ticket.

  5. Too much of a gagfest for me to watch. I’ll pass. God is an awesome creator, but sometimes the details and results of His creations require a strong stomach.
