SPLC Is Now Policing What Music You Can Listen To On Spotify

Daily Caller: Left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center, which has a reputation for labeling Christian and conservative organizations as “hate groups,” is now policing the world’s largest music streaming service for “hate content.”

Spotify announced their partnership with the SPLC on Thursday, as part of a new policy cracking down on “hate content” and “hateful conduct.”

Spotify defines “hate content” as content “that expressly and principally promotes, advocates, or incites hatred or violence against a group or individual based on characteristics, including, race, religion, gender identity, sex, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, veteran status, or disability.”

But the rules will be enforced subjectively, Spotify conceded, stating, “it’s important to remember that cultural standards and sensitivities vary widely. That means there will always be content that is acceptable in some circumstances but is offensive in others, and we will always look at the entire context.”

The SPLC is known for labeling pedestrian conservative organizations as “hate groups” and calling critics of political correctness “extremists.” The liberal group deleted four articles in March and April alone after challenges to their accuracy.

The SPLC isn’t the only left-wing group policing content on Spotify.  more here

So rap hip hop music that objectifies women, and advocates rape and killing whitey is fine and dandy. Patriotic or christian music…not so much.

  2. They’d best not get wind of the original lyrics of My Old Kentucky Home.
“It’s summer the darkies are gay..”. That could offend everybody.

Don’t be stupid Spotify. I’m a $10/mo subscriber. Don’t force me to pull that plug, too.

  3. Are they going to ban Crazy written by Willie Nelson and covered by Patsy Cline because it might denigrate crazy people? How about Oh Boy by Buddy Holly because he gets a little hot under the color toward his first night anticipation with his lover. I Fought The Law And The Law Won by Bobby Fuller is also out unless you’re an SJW, tell that that to Manuel Noriega. The SPLC can kiss my ass, they don’t like anybody or anything that doesn’t fit their leftwing agenda. And the worse is the Barney theme song because it makes fun of retarded people.

  4. If you listen to, are you sitting down(?), a radio, have CD’s or even VINYL, it’s pretty easy not be bothered by this BS for what it is other than IT IS becoming weaponized.

@ Ann Thracts I believe it was Al Jolson and he did it BLACK face:

Check it out before you have to visit a below ground vault in the future…where it will be stored by the leftists ‘for safe keeping’.

  5. They would allow lyrics like: “Bit*h, get yo big black a** over here…A’m gun fu** yo big black a**, bit*h.”

    or,

“Whitey goin’ down, brothers, yeah soon he be down”.

  6. You have to learn to read between the lines. When they say that standards and sensitivities vary widely, what the actual meaning is, ” If you are of any color than white, you can sing, rap, talk, say, or musically hum, play, anything that you like, with no repercussions.” Implied is that if you are white, your days of participation in the music business are soon to be limited to only buying the aforementioned artists content, and paying whatever the hell the SPLC decides that you will pay, as a means of trying to achieve settlement for past racism against musicians.

I know that this is true, because I was in a discussion online where I was berated for the fact that all white people only choose white musicians as being good jazz musicians, and this person claimed to be an authority on the subject, and so I should not question his knowledge. Sadly for him, I have been a musician for nearly my entire life, and a student of jazz for most of that time. When I tried to explain that he could not tell someone what they liked, he got offended, as if I had insulted his heritage.

Just like Dick’s sporting goods cut their own throat by abandoning half of their customer base, Spotify may have just shot themselves in the foot. I can always find someplace else for content that doesn’t partner with the SPLC.

  7. Q: What in the bloody fuckin’ hells does Uber and Lyft have to do with the SPLC?
Isn’t their sole business model to pick up and transport paying passengers?

  8. I wonder how well this would work;
I, as a “converted muzzie”, would find some of the more bloody, violent, hateful verses in the last half of the Quoran, set them to a little music, and put it on Spotify.
    Would the music be banned?
