Sesame Street Suing to Stop Film Marketing Company From Tainting Their Brand

The Happytime Murders is another one of these R-rated adult movies that intentionally juxtaposes  childhood innocence with vulgar decadence for sick laughs. If you think the closeted Seth McFarland’s “Ted” was dark, the trailer for this movie makes it look like Fraggle Rock.

Sesame Street has a gripe. The tagline for the new Melissa McCarthy film is “No Sesame. All Street.” That’s not fair to Sesame Street. It makes it sound like they made the film and are sullying their own brand, which can turn off their devoted fans.

Who’s the target audience for The Happytime Murders, adults who used to watch Sesame Street and now think, “there wasn’t enough crack whores and jism”?  (Yes jism. A puppet has a scene where it ejaculates.”)

I’d be uncomfortable in the theater at this movie. I’d be looking at the theater-goers trying to figure out which ones get off on cartoon porn. I remember seeing an X-rated gif of Fred and Wilma and thinking, “okay, that was funny,” not realizing there was an entire industry that caters to people who are not looking at it for laughs.

Sleazy puppets? I get it. It could be funny.

Tying it into an actual franchise that for many, many people was a time of innocence? Creepy.

    ?????

Seasame Street still has fans? really?

  2. I saw the preview for this movie, and it contained the ejaculation scene. My husband and I were both disgusted. It looked like a vulgar rip off of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

  3. I believe in this case, the Apple does fall very far from the tree.

Brian Henson wrote and directed this thing, and tried to justify it by saying that it was something his father always wanted to do.

I find that impossible to believe simply based on the fact that when Jim Henson was at the height of his popularity and ability to make the film’s he wanted, he always chose to make something that had imagination and that everyone could enjoy.

His pilot for the Muppet show was a satire making FUN of idiots (like his own son ironically), who were obsessed with sex and violence, hence the name of the pilot was ‘muppets: sex and violence’.

Jim Henson felt that movies and tv needed to be something that the entire family could enjoy together, and that it was insulting to teenagers and adults to assume that all they wanted to see was vulgarity.

Maybe Brian should’ve tried to mirror his old man and kept his sick sense of humor at home. When first heard of happytime murders I thought that maybe it could be funny, seeing Muppets getting blown to fluff and having a hard boiled detective try to solve them sounded like a funny idea. Too bad I didn’t realize that it was also going to include oodles of creepy sexual ‘jokes’, cocaine jokes galore, and a swear word every other sentence.

It’s like something I would’ve expected to find on 4chan. No heart, all perversion. Sad.
