Mexican President-Elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador: “We are conscious of the need to maintain good relations with the United States”

CTH: Mexico’s president-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador “AMLO” easily won yesterday’s election with 54% of the vote; the highest vote total in three decades.  In addition his MORENA party won an absolute majority in both the Mexican Senate (38% +/-) and the Chamber of Deputies (38% +/-).

The multinational financial community is in the process of evaluating how the nationalist win will impact all prior investing. One of the key issues is NAFTA. Multinational corporations have poured billions into Mexico as a structural method to utilize the trade deal to gain access to the U.S. market.

Despite his campaign position, AMLO is now affirming a positive intention to renegotiate NAFTA; however, he is speaking from both sides of the current issue. Example:

  1. Get your checkbook out Paco, pay for the wall or it’s going to cost you ten times as much in two years.
We have the Trump Badgers negotiating now

  2. Jag offs’ a pragmatist. He wants a higher standard of living in Mesiko. That translates into massive government infrastructure spending.

To pay for all that crap he needs strong business and political ties with the U.S.

Since no one in the history of Mesiko has ever pulled that off I’m watching with mild interest but with no real hope of seeing the status quo in Mesiko change.

  3. US, surrounded by soft socialists. I wonder how much NAFTA caused this? Basically two US subsidized economies, what the heck do we think will come of that

  4. One of Mexico’s biggest sources of revenue is remittances sent from money earned in the U.S. I read the other day it’s bigger than oil revenue. Over 50% of the illegals use some sort of public assistance. The IRS takes money from your pocket, gives it to illegals, who then send it to Mexico. You are working to support Mexicans in Mexico.

The Mexicans don’t want the U.S. spigot to be turned off or the GDP down there will shrink by over 1/3, hence the opposition to the wall. AMLO himself has said in campaign speeches he thinks it’s a right for people to invade (immigrate) to the U.S. so he won’t stop Central Americans (or Muslim terrorists) from coming here.

The Democrats want to import leftist voters to maintain their power and create a Democrat majority. This is the real reason they want amnesty and open borders.
