Mitch McConnell Pushing Ray Kethledge for Supreme Court to Appeal to Establishment Republicans, Not Conservatives

Breitbart: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is pushing for Judge Ray Kethledge to be President Donald Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court vacancy opened by the retirement of Justice Anthony Kennedy, Breitbart News has learned.

McConnell has, in private conversations, said he is pushing Trump to pick Kethledge for the slot because he thinks Kethledge’s positions in contravention of the GOP base on certain issues like immigration would make him an easily-confirmed nominee in an election year.

“McConnell has said he does not want a SCOTUS battle in an election year,” one source briefed on McConnell’s comments to a variety of people around Washington, including at least one journalist whom the Senate Majority Leader spoke with off the record ahead of Monday’s announcement. “He thinks Kethledge would be easy to confirm because Kethledge is not a consistent conservative.”  more here

  1. You would think he has enough on his hands managing his familiy’s financial ties to china.
“…he thinks Kethledge’s positions in contravention of the GOP base on certain issues like immigration would make him an easily-confirmed nominee…”

  2. Trump needs to stick to his guns and appoint a constitutionalist to the bench (especially if they’re a woman). It would be an ugly fight in an election year but may not harm the GOP if the message is delivered correctly.
Going forward it’s likely Ginzberg would go before the end of his first term (either through retirement, infirmity or death) which gives him another one and should he win a second term he’ll probably get another one (Stephen Breyer, 80 now) and if he wanted to really return the court to what the founders meant it to be he could negotiate with Clarence Thomas about taking retirement in the 4th year of Trumps second term. Appoint a black constitutionalist judge of about 50 and for decades the court will protect the constitution and the country and Trump’s visage will get carved on Mount Rushmore.

  3. No way should P.Trump put this guy on the SC.
Go read some of his rulings on “immigrants” he only calls them illegals in a footnote one time.
Mitch does not want to fight for P.Trumps pick he wants to take the easy way, what a wimp.

  4. Just a rule of thumb: If Mitch likes it, it’s anathematic to America.

He’s a gutless puke and the socialists are only ragging on him to throw America off the scent – he’s their “Ace in the Hole.”
