A Texas waiter who claimed to have been stiffed by a racist customer now admits he made the whole thing up.
Saltgrass Steak House waiter Khalil Cavil went viral after posting a Facebook picture of a racist note that Cavil claimed a customer had left on the receipt, in lieu of a tip.
“I don’t tip terrorist,” the note read, alongside a circle of Cavil’s name.
Cavil’s Facebook post racked up thousands of shares and earned sympathetic coverage in The Washington Post and HuffPost, which were forced to post corrections atop their stories on Monday after Cavil admitted he fabricated the viral note.
“I did write it,” Cavil told the Odessa American, a local Texas paper, on Monday. “I don’t have an explanation. I made a mistake. There is no excuse for what I did.”
Cavil’s admission came after Saltgrass — which at first banned the offending customer for life — admitted that its investigation found the waiter had faked the note.
“After further investigation, we have learned that our employee fabricated the entire story. The customer has been contacted and invited back to our restaurant to dine on us,” Saltgrass COO Terry Turney said in a statement.
Screw this restaurant. Their default position was to immediately believe the accuser and brand the accused a racist.
This default position is BACKWARDs and it’s only catering to, and buying into, the narrative that white people are inherently people are racist and bigoted.
How about innocent until proven guilty? How about that default position for a change?
My gut feeling tells me this isn’t the last time he fucks up.
I’m from Texas. I’ve traveled all over the world. I can tell you that Texans are among the most tolerant people anywhere.
Time and time again we see this. If it’s not a mean note on a receipt, it’s the note on a dorm room door, a parked car, a pulled hijab etc…..This is all about getting attention so someone can play the victim card and have the SJW’s swarm in and say,”There, there. You’re a special snowflake.”
What these hoaxers forget is that they shatter and defame normal, hard-working people.(As you see, the restaurants knee-jerk reaction was to ban the customer for life).
On top of that, in this age of social media, twitter, Facebook etc….no one is going to leave a note like that with their personal info just waiting to be doxxed and go viral.

I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that the customer actually left a tip, but used cash. Back when I did eat out often, I would sometimes pay the bill with a credit card, but leave the tip in cash. Partly for my own convenience, but also because I would know that the server personally got the tip rather than being split among several of them.

You have got to be kidding me. You considered this patron guilty before you even bothered to do an investigation and all you’re going to do is give him a free meal? Go screw yourself. I hope we start hearing the patron’s side of this and he decides to ban YOU for life.
And then there’s this: “The restaurant, which had initially backed Cavil, had announced banning the customer before the hoax was revealed.” HOAX? It was an out-and-out lie. Hoaxes are meant to be funny.

I can understand the position of an employer wanting to demonstrate that his loyalty is to his employees, but there should have been an investigation (or at least contact the customer) before you banned him for life.
Since his employee did not demonstrate any loyalty to the employer, time to hand the kid his walking papers and ban him from the restaurant for life.
I’d like to see the customer sue the restaurant out of business.
I’m guessing this isn’t the first time that employee demonstrated his smarmy behavior. He has probably filched tips (that he should have shared) before. Shame on the restaurant management/owner for being cowed by skin color. So many (most?) of these phony *hate crimes* are really just personal and mundane: seeking attention, greed, opportunism, and so on. Does anyone really believe these know-nothing, 20-somethings really care about social justice? Me, neither.
I hope the dump gets shuttered for the shabby treatment of the customer and for being so desperate they’d hire that hunk of shit to wait tables.
