CWB: Divvy Theft Crisis: Video of theft technique emerges as system continues to bleed blue bikes.

It has been less than two weeks since CWBChicago broke the news about a massive theft problem that is affecting Chicago’s Divvy bike-sharing program. Thieves have learned a technique that will release bikes from the system’s docking stations without paying, we reported.

Now, a local TV station has aired footage of the technique. We can confirm that what you will see in the video is the same general method used by two Divvy thieves that our staff personally saw in action during late June and early July.

The ever-present blue bikes are the property of Chicago taxpayers, not Divvy. So, every bike that is stolen comes out of your pocket, not the company’s. Here’s a complete update on the latest developments in the Divvy story.

  10. So the Chicago PD is spending time and man power to crack down on stolen state owned bikes yet this is Chicago what has a year to date 1,360 shot and wounded and 314 murdered.

    I know of the broken windows policing but the concept there is you not only crack down on the petty stuff but you also crack down on things like Murder.

    So, to recap, someone in Chicago thought setting up a rent-a-bike was going to work out smashingly and now has the PD cracking down on stolen bikes. … In a place that averages 6 shootings victims a day. ….Bwaahahahaha

    Some people use drugs and or alcohol to escape reality- others vote democrat. Same net result- the innocent suffer.

  13. These purpose built bikes that were made for the city and don’t look like any bike you can buy are going to be sold on the black market? Try it. There’s no profit in it. The thieves probably end up dumping the bike somewhere to take off the heat.

    First rule of being a good thief is knowing the market you are thieving for. These pathetic thieves steal for the sake of stealing. The bikes would probably go unnoticed if they weren’t locked up.

  15. The company name is Divvy. Stupid Chicago thieves unwittingly fullfiled the definition of “divvy” – divide up. Typical socialist program – full of unintended consequences.
    BTW, Nothing is free. Someone pays a price for everthing. The left constantly present the lie that everything is free to confuse and disrupt.
