Here it is, the heavy hand of the totalitarian left. They have to have their mitts in everything in order to micromanage their cities into oblivion.
San Francisco lawmakers this week introduced a proposal that would ban workplace cafeterias that offer free food to workers in an effort to encourage more patronage of local businesses.
City Supervisors Ahsha Safai and Aaron Peskin introduced the measure, which would change zoning laws so that workplace cafeterias would no longer be permitted…
Although the ban is meant to help local eateries and their employees, University of California, Berkeley, urban economics professor Enrico Moretti told Buzzfeed News that it would likely hurt restaurant workers more than help them because cafeteria jobs in tech companies tend to offer better pay and benefits.
“If we’re talking about wages, working conditions, and benefits, I think it’s likely to make things worse for workers,” Moretti said. “The fraction of workers in restaurants that are offered benefits and high wages is certainly lower than what the worker would find in the cafeteria of a large company.”
What’s next? A ban on sack lunches, too? Good grief. And they think *we’re* the fascists?
They actually hate people.
No SEIU raising hell? Seems like they’re eating their own.
Remember, boys and girls, this is the definition of authoritarian governments (socialism, communism, democracy): “What isn’t compulsory, is forbidden”.
Thus ends today’s lesson.
Require an environmental impact study of the effects of increased traffic due to this law. That will tie it up for half a dozen years.
But, why (oh, WHY!) would San Francisco restaurants be struggling?
Come November, these little bots will dutifully vote a straight “D” ticket again. Fuck ’em. They get what they voted for.
The insanity of the left is like a wildfire, it can’t be stopped and just has to run its course until it burns itself out. Meanwhile its destruction as far as the eye can see.
They have’nt yet figured out how to Legally weigh the workers before , and after their shifts.
They could always Deploy a “Hug Patrol Team” , that could Secretly Squeeze the Workers to see who’s eaten for free.
Don’t squeeze ’em too hard. You might get an unpleasant refund!
No free food. No plastic straws but here’s your free syringes and just crap wherever you wish. Paradise?
Give them spoons and let them take care of the human waste problem on the sidewalks.
Freedom isn’t what you may do, freedom is what you must do. ht – every statist ever
Best for the company to keep employees on campus in vue of cameras to reduce number of stoned workers after lunch
They went to the trouble of a new law but left open the loophole of brown-bagging it? They need to ban lunches from home too.
Then they need to force workplaces to extend lunch-time to an hour or more so the people can travel to the restaurants.
“What a wonderful world.”
Caution: Try to avoid stepping on a turd on your way to lunch.
Wonderful!
Solution: charge a dime for the formerly free lunch.
;
What a dumb idea. They should just call the “free lunch” as income, then tax it.
When Trump finally gets around to building the border wall, they need to take a Right at the Arizona/California border and a left at the Washington/Canada border–put California, Oregon, and Washington on the outside to reduce their ability to infect the rest of the country.
Back during the Roosevelt Administration (Frank, not Ted) farmers who fed their cattle with their own grain were forced to either pay a tax or sell the grain and buy other grain to feed their cattle.
Socialist imbecility isn’t new.
People choose not to know – much to their later chagrin.
Once gov’t (whatever level) is allowed to interfere, it won’t stop. The appetite for tyranny and mischief is insatiable. The greed and avarice, both for power and money, is unquenchable. Even a fastidious man will smell like shit after swimming in a septic tank – and he’s bound to swallow some.
We ignore these lessons at our peril.
izlamo delenda est …
This has nothing to do helping local restaurants.
1. Ban that which is free and untaxed to force purchase of that which is taxed…
2. Take that which was free and they could not control and enforce confiscation of the new revenue stream they can control to redistribute and redirect…

because I was not a tray wiper
Here is the situation:
Government intervention imposes high minimum wages that make local restaurants raise their prices.
Higher menu prices cause people to eat in more.
Local restaurants lose customers, start closing.
Government solution:
– Force people to eat at the restaurants that are too high priced due to government intervention.
GOOD! The more they wreck everything
the sooner they get another Venezuela
and that’s what SF deserves.
I used to work in the city on the South Side at Schlage, the lock people. It had a VERY nice cafeteria in the bottom floor with a real chef overseeing the daily menu. the food was delicious, well prepared, reasonably priced and right there, an elevator ride away and with short lunch times……
I thought this an amazing “perk” and that Schlage was a great company for providing this to their people when they truly didn’t have to.
That was until the first time I decided to leave the building and venture out into South San Francisco to take in a meal at a local establishment. While I was warned EXTENSIVELY prior to leaving about the dangers in the neighborhood, it truly paled to what I encountered.
I was warned to be careful should I hit an ATM for lunch money. Initially I thought it silly as it was the middle of the day and I am an ex-football player…..IOW, I am plenty big enough to take care of myself. BUT……………..
I found this to be sound advise when I happened by a bank on my way and took note of all the skeevy looking characters hanging out within a few steps of the ATM. I wouldn’t have stopped there had I needed money. I wondered as I passed if anyone was even safe with going inside the bank as they looked perfectly willing and able to follow you away from the bank and rob around the corner.
Again…..this was NOON……in broad open daylight.
I walked less than 5 blocks from the facility and saw people openly doing drugs on the sidewalk, stepped around two men in separate parts of my journey who were simply passed out on the sidewalk, one who had urinated on himself and the sidewalk while out cold.
As I rounded a corner, I thought better of a sandwich shop down the street based on the folks dotting the landscape between me and a panini.
It was my last time to venture out for lunch and left Schlage not long after that for a job closer to home Cupertino.
“Peskin”…perfect name. And “Ahsha Safai” sounds like somebody who’d have been Barky’s Deputy Undersecretary of something. Are these clowns appointed or elected?
I think everyone (except maybe Anonymous’ comment above) is missing the point as to why the liberal brain trust running SF is proposing this. Fact is, there are more restaurant seats than residents in SF. The restaurants made their money on all the tourists and convention participants who came to town and ate 2-3 times a day. Now that the fecal matter flows freely down the streets, the conventions and tourists are going elsewhere. Last I saw SF tourism / conventions was down over 40%. That’s a shit ton of empty restaurant seats, not to mention lost revenue. So in a feeble attempt to cover their asses for destroying a once great city, the politicks are blaming corporate cafeterias as the problem rather than admitting to another in a long list of liberal failures.
I guess the cafeteria food just magically appears and there are no cooks and other staff making it happen. Not to mention the contracts with food product distributors. So they will screw over one aspect of the local economy to help another with, of course, corrupt motives and to cover their mistakes as whatshisface illumimated. Typical liberal BS; Proudly proclaim a solution to a crisis they created, compound the initial problem and create a new crisis.
