A California college student is suing the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), claiming that his First Amendment rights were violated when his school prohibited him from handing out copies of the U.S. Constitution.
Kevin Shaw, a student at Pierce College in California says he was stopped from handing out Spanish-language copies of the U.S. Constitution on campus because it was not inside the school’s designated “free speech area.”
In his lawsuit complaint, Shaw alleges that, while he was handing out Spanish-language copies of the U.S. Constitution, he was forced to stop and was then escorted into an office and told to complete a permit application to use the college’s “Free Speech Area.” The free speech area measures 616 square feet and comprises approximately .003% of the total area of Pierce College’s 426-acre campus.
The original complaint filed in March of last year by Shaw states that “restricting all First Amendment activity to Pierce College’s tiny, designated Free Speech Area impermissibly restricts student expression, does not serve a significant government interest, and is unconstitutionally vague and overbroad.”
At least he was passing out constitutions in spanish language form. If they were printed in english all the students would need them translated.
The virus that is the left has been very successful in spreading their disease.
Aside from the obvious irony of the story, shouldn’t any student in an American college have already read it in English?
Sadly its our fellow “americans” that are destroying this country. All public institutions are rife with these traitors and its going to be near impossible to rid ourselves of them. Only a civil war will stop this in its tracks.
If anyone told me I was required to use a ‘free speech area’ I would pull out a map of the US and say that is my recognized free speech area, as stated in the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution.
He should have passed out Constitution’s with a fake cover that said ‘The Quran’.
Not only would he have not been stopped, the school officials would have probably joined in and helped distribute them.
If he was handing out information on the “how to’s” of gay sex, He’d be left alone.
I wonder if an anti-Trump demonstration would be confined to the Free Speech area?
Right Winger makes a good point. Would a student distributing Islamic literature, or BLM leaflets, or Occupy flyers, or Antifa manifestos, be subject to the same treatment?
The left wouldn’t want anyone knowing what is actually written in the US Constitution until they filter it and twist about to suit their likes. God forbid someone find out the truth and start using their rights as written.
