Cartoon Network is rerunning one of the more interesting Japanese animations tonight, One Punch Man (2:30 am Eastern tonight). It’s about a mild-mannered super hero who destroys all foes with one mighty wallop. While this may seem like the ultimate in super heroics, it comes with a lot of existential baggage.
Bill Burr on One Punch Man (language warning) Here
Aw, Yeah!
I love opm, it’s really zany sometimes but it’s so funny. 🙂
Season 2 is airing this fall in Japan I believe.
First Anime Bill? Got news for ya’ pal, ALL Japanese anime comes with existential baggage.
I mean… you know Hello Kitty is a white girl from England who has a pet cat, right?
That’s right Bill, Hello Kitty is a white kid who’s horribly disfigured and looks like a kitten with a giant head… how messed up is that?
That Pokemon crap? Kid in a coma dreaming the whole thing.
Face it Bill, Japan has issues.
I’m with you, I’ve never particularly cared for Japanese Anime cartoons. I don’t know all about the existential angst but the eyes on the anime characters are all soulless and lifeless to me and a little bit creepy.
Is this not just a anime take-off from The Onion movie Steven Seagal’s “CockPuncher”? Hard to keep up these days,,,

So, tentacle porn might really exist?
Well kids, the only way to be sure is to go to pornhub and look it up….. make sure you bring your dad and a strobe light….. for like, safety.
Yours in American Jesus,
A. Burr
Bill Cosby was always a one Punch Guy…Or maybe it was Hi-C.
The Mr. knocked out many a guy with one punch. He was also good with three or four at a time. He was always the one standing at the end.
Nope! I prefer Tom & Jerry, Bugs Bunny and the rest of the classics. He’ll, guess I’m getting old.
Love anime, ever since Gigantor and Astro Boy. Yeah, that long ago, I’m an old person. Battle Ship Yamato was always a favorite, among dozens of others.
Different Tim, I too prefer the classic American cartoons over anime. But I also like Japanese monster movies like Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan etc. I blame it on growing up in the 60’s watching Sat. morning cartoons and going to movies on Sat. afternoons for a quarter for a double feature with cartoons, Disney movies were .35 and long movies with intermissions like The Longest Day, The Great Escape etc., .50 at the Lee Theater in Ephrata, Wa.
If you’re actually interested in watching Japanese anime and wondering what would be a good series to start with, I recommend Cowboy Bebop. One Punch Man is great, but you have to approach it as a satire on all comic heroes. There’s also Ghost in the Shell, but it’s a bit slow moving.
Some anime is extremely bloody and a nightmare, like Attack on Titan. Other anime doesn’t appeal to me, but I consider Cowboy Bebop one of the highest expression of the art. I have it on DVD and watch it at least once a year.
Geoff the aardvark, just watched a Godzilla movie on t.v. about a week ago. May have been first one. All spoke in Japanese and subtitles were English. Was kind of wierd.
If Raymond Burr was in that Godzilla movie it was the 1st Godzilla movie from the mid 50’s. He played an American reporter reporting on Godzilla and the destruction of Tokyo and yes it was in Japanese with English subtitles. The ones that were dubbed in English into the movie were the worst since they couldn’t quite get their Engrish right and were hilarious.
@ Aaron Burr – did you ever see the below BEFORE you went to Pornhub? Or is that what you really dig, PH Anime?
