CPR:
On June 30, 2004, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom won national headlines when he announced his “Ten Year Plan to Abolish Chronic Homelessness.”
Newsom said he wanted a “dramatic shift” from reactive policies used to deal with those without shelter who often suffer from addiction, mental illness or both. He promised that the aggressive transients seen in downtown areas harassing storekeepers, residents and tourists would get indoor housing; that the newly homeless would have access to immediate help to prevent them from going on downward spirals; and, perhaps most remarkably, that emergency homeless shelters eventually would have to close because they would have no transients left to serve.
Fourteen years later, Newsom’s promises seem like fantasies – or cruel jokes – in a city where the quality of life and the tourism industry feel under siege from 7,500 or more homeless people. Despite spending more than $2 billion on the problem since 2004 – vastly more than big cities with similar homeless issues – San Francisco officials sometimes convey the sense of feeling overwhelmed.
The notion that the problem is out of control is frequently illustrated by visiting journalists who make parts of the city seem like obstacle courses covered by feces, used needles and surly, erratic individuals ready to intimidate passers-by into giving them money.
Yet San Francisco’s problem is actually in some ways both better and worse than in similar cities. more here
It’s the San Francisco leaders who should be homeless.
I think his ‘peoples’ didn’t hear the F in “dramatic shift”. What a dang mess.
Here’s an idea: crack down on the drug dealers. Make owning or possessing a injection needle a crime.
Without the drugs, the homeless will leave.
Feed the homeless to the hungry….
Problem solved
Two birds, one stone….as it were
Went there for 3 month training in 2000 for a firm bought that was moving to the east coast. Put up and stayed in a fine business park hotel, expenses paid. Went downtown twice. That was enough. Was amazed that LSD had such a long lasting effect. Even scary back than was the BART train ride to the west coast Baltimore in Oakland. Almost 2 decades later, no change, just worse. Thanks to the “open minded” career elected liberal trash. Feces is as elected. Over 20 years nothing has changed, just gotten worse, and accepted as everyday as it’s always been. I’d say Nancy P got know for being the garbage she is in Baltimore, just found a new place to trash,,yet nope
All perennial homeless vagrants now scattered throughout the country should be picked up and bused to San Francisco! They now have both the infrastructure and philosophy in place, including a bleeding heart mentally, to provide the continual and necessary amount of stupidity, insanity, and resources needed to maintain and sustain a worthless and failed social construct!
Being in Vegas lately, I am shocked at how many homeless live here.
It changes the way many businesses operate.
The fast food places all have their bathrooms locked.
They all have thirty minute stay limits.
I imagine Starbucks (quietly) does the same.
Loco, can you imagine how miserable it is trying to maintain your Will Work For Food franchise, when it’s 110 degrees outside. I get down to Arizona and Vegas for work and when I see those guys I can’t believe they put themselves through that. What a life.
SF/homeless, Sacramento/ISIS-AQ. What do these two cities have in common? Well, besides the obvious and the list is too long.
You DID build that and now it’s sucks to be you.
Joe6, “will work for food” franchise!
Well done. I may have to steal that.
Having lived in Florida I am used to heat.
Yes, this is 20-25 degrees higher but the lower humidity makes it bearable.
I was surprised how fast I have acclimated.
I ran this morning and it wasn’t that bad.
Sweat actually does it’s job and evaporates here.
In Florida, not so much.
Of course the people here versus down South is night and day.
Much friendlier down South. 🙂
Due to our Rulers, California will not be participating in Trumps economic boom. We get our machine work from the Feds. If your a sheet metal shop or a precision machine shop in California relying on the local economy, you’re sucking wind. The aluminum suppliers and platers are all crying. And every week we hear about another OEM moving to either Utah or Arizona. A few to Idaho.
Geez BB, maybe you otta get out while you can. 49 states would be grateful to have you bring your jobs with you. Close friend did it. Only regret was not doing it sooner. Bottom line dramatically improved. Stress level cut in half.

Waiting on a 92 year old mother in law that’s healthier than I am. That sounds harsh. I love her like my own.
The fact that an 1100 sq ft dump of a house goes for around a million dollars might have something to do with it…..
