An outrageous set of accusations claimed a man committed a disgusting act against a child while uttering a racial slur.
But after two days, we find out that the children involved were making it all up.
It started Wednesday when a woman living on Grand Rapids’ Northwest side said that a 5-year-old girl soaked with urine came running to her house. The story that allegedly came from the girl and her friends was that a man urinated on her in an alley in the 1000 block of Leonard Street NW and then used a racial slur against her.
It sparked outrage and led to the leader of the NAACP calling on Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker to investigate the incident as a potential hate crime.
But things changed Friday evening when the prosecutor’s office issued a statement saying that the parents of the children revealed that the story was fabricated.
The prosecutor’s office says one of the children urinated on another child, and the story was concocted to avoid trouble. The prosecutor’s office is still conducting lab tests to verify the latest story, but the man was cleared.
Keep in mind, the man’s name and mugshot (he was charged with a sex offense) were published before the girl told the truth.

The guy in question is a non-compliant registered sex offender who lives on the same street as the young girl, according to the news station, registered as a sex offender in Michigan in 1997, according to the state’s Public Sex Offender registry. That same year, he was convicted of criminal sexual assault against a person under 13 years old.
This made him an easy target for the kids to blame. I put this on the same level as someone who makes up an excuse for something by saying a minority did it. The difference is, in cases like these, its going to be about understanding the children, their feelings and how hard it is for them to grow up in an area like theirs.

Normally a 5 year old will concoct stories about a grown man exposing himself to piss on her while hurling racial slurs. Happens all the time. I mean, she’s had the 18 damn months since she’s a toddler to fully grasp the concepts and that’s only from snippets of CNN in between cartoons.
I’ll bet the prosecutor leaped out of his chair he was so eager to act and was deeply disappointed when the story was proved false. Of course the accusers skipped off laughing all the way.
The accused has his life ruined even though innocent. I hope he sues these scum into a hole they’ll never dig out of.
