Dolphins’ Kenny Stills, Albert Wilson first NFL players in Week 1 to kneel during anthem.

NFL players’ protests weren’t widespread in Sunday’s first games, but the demonstrations had not died out in Week 1.

Miami Dolphins wide receivers Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson became the first players of the 2018 regular season to kneel in protest during the national anthem when they did so before Sunday’s contest against the Tennessee Titans.

Dolphins defensive end Robert Quinn also raised a fist during the song, as did San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin before his team’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey and linebacker Telvin Smith both stayed in the locker room for the anthem, as did Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas and linebacker Brandon Marshall.

Stills and Wilson both kneeled in the preseason and said they planned to continue to do so in the regular season. Stills said he would consider stopping if former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who began kneeling in 2016 as a means to protest racial inequality and police brutality, and former 49ers safety Eric Reid were signed by an NFL team.

  5. On the Thursday night game, former seahawk and current eagle, michael bennett sat for the National Anthem. I used to look forward to football season. Bastards ruined it.

I wonder if you’ll start to see the mediocre or players on the edge of being cut starting to kneel thinking the coach will think twice about cutting him if the coach figures he’d end up with a lawsuit especially since no other team would pick up a worn out, useless player. It could work and the player could get a few hundred extra thousand (at least) before he has to pack his bags for good.

  13. they are protesting racial inequality…hmmmmm….i guess there is inequality. because i am white, i don’t get to fill up 2 shopping carts full of food and pay(rip off taxpayers) with an ebt card. because i am white, i don’t get a handicap parking permit “just because”. because i am white, i can’t abuse the local emergency room for non-emergent care. also, since i am the wrong color my children don’t have a chance at the better scholarships. the list goes on. well…. bless their hearts… they’ve been protesting on my behalf all this time.

    News flash to all employees. Standing for the anthem and respecting the flag is a condition of employment….PERIOD. NOT negotiable with the union, the press, or with anyone else.

  27. You have to do whatever it takes as an employee to make money for your boss and don’t embarrass him or the company. If you do the latter you most likely will be fired.

  28. My oldest daughter is in a relationship with an AF. At Christmas last year, a question was asked to me about NFL playoff games. Told her I had no clue because we didn’t follow NFL last year. (This on the heels of being Falcons season ticket holders). She made the comment that I was the most advocate of the Constitution she’s ever known. I responded, yes, protest off the field but not on the field with a paid, captive audience. She actually understood.
