  1. So far I’ve refused to have one. Friends and even my wife are on these stupid things constantly. I have a clam phone and use it for nothing more than phone calls.
It’s disturbing how dependent everyone is on those things. Having a face to face conversation with a person is more likely than not to be interrupted by them grabbing their phone .
    It has gotten bad.
Not to mention they’re being tracked and ease dropped on.

  2. Cell phones were pretty new when my kids were in middle and high school. I wouldn’t buy them.
They got their own phones when they were over 18.
    They are hooked on them.
That number of over 2,000 touches per day on the average cell phone user is wicked high!!!
Do any of you who don’t use your phone for work actually use your phone an average 145 min per day?
    Wow!

    I love the AR goggles!!

  3. I admit, in the warmer months I’m on my phone or tablet A LOT. It’s because they’re “mobile” devices. Depending on how hot or how interesting the information these devices provide is, I may drain a battery in one sitting.

I don’t care for air conditioning,I like to be outside and I can take my phone or tablet anywhere.

I don’t do unsocial media. If I’m on a mobile device binge, I’m either reading or watching.

  4. Don’t do social media, and I think that’s key. I have a smart phone, but it’s mostly for phone calls. It’s got a great camera which I use a when we travel. Useful navigation app and one game for whiling away the time in waiting rooms. Messaging is for contacting family when I can’t get them on the phone. I don’t even use the music apps that much, as I crave silence now and then. That’s about it. My adult children, who grew up with the devices are the same. Self restraint is the name of the game.

  5. I shut off the location and tracking to the best of my knowledge. I don’t link it with my laptop, I have minimal apps and I don’t buy the latest stuff for it. I still use my iPhone 5. FIVE! What are they on now? 11? 12? 20?
Text and phone calls. That’s about it.

  6. I got a call from Kyoto, Japan on my smart phone when I was over in Montana on Monday. I didn’t pick it up and answer it, if I don’t know who’s calling or the phone number I will never answer. And the calls that say unknown caller or worse unavailable I totally ignore.

  7. A smart phone is a mini computer and more in some ways. Best use is in the car as a sub for your PC. Sometimes I hotlink my tablet to it to get a bigger screen. If you dine alone in a restaurant while travelling… it’s very useful. You can pull up IOTW and get your daily dose of news…

  8. I wrote a big rant about this and then decided to just say it’s not just the kids. I know people in their 40s, 50s, 70 and older who never let go of the damn phone while simultaneously complaining that they can’t get a minute’s peace from all the texts they send each other all the time. ALL the time. Meals, movies, whatever.
