The flag patch worn by our military personnel may seem backwards, but there’s a reason the canton of stars are in the upper right hand side.

  1. I never made it to colonel, but I remember when my reserve commander made it and he was schooled by a general about the eagle head facing forward, not back.
    Never had to worry about that as major leaf is stem down with no difference left or right.

  2. The Kabul XO sent me a flag along with a certificate from Afghanistan, “certifying” that this was the actual flag my son flew in his Apache on a mission in March. (Army PR, but still kind of cool.) The certificate depicts a photo of an Apache helicopter, with its tail on the left and nose on the right, and a flag draped out inside the front right side window. Out of curiosity, I just went and checked the certificate, and yup, the flag is displayed “backwards”. Didn’t notice it before. Probably because, yes, that’s how it would be moving.
