I will make a point of watching this series in the future. Wish I had heard of it sooner.
Someone post Flanders fields for me.
I’M too stupid for my phone.
In Flanders Fields
John McCrae, 1872 – 1918
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place, and in the sky,
The larks, still bravely singing, fly,
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead; short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe!
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
He was KIA shortly after writing this.
Interesting and very well put together vid of the guns and cannons going silent one hundred years ago…it must have been an amazing thing to experience the silence after such deafening CARNAGE.

My grandfather was at Moselle- Meuse and St Michel ’17-’18. Not on the front but NOT too far away! He actually got wounded after the Armistice and even not being on ‘the front’ still “got a bit of the mustard gas” as my grandmother would say.
Poster’s comment:
“Since I have had people calling the upload bullshit I will clear this up. The sounds are modern recordings, the soundscape has been designed from the sound ranging data on this front on nov 11 1918. Not many sounds of battle were actually recorded from the First World War, Recording at that stage was not able to pick up many nuances of sounds. Some sound effects of battle were recorded in studios as part of recordings for troops such as sketches.”
My town recites the Flanders Fields poem every Memorial Day at their parade…very moving.
