The Buckley Program at Yale conducted a survey of college students on political issues. (Methodology HERE.)
-41% OF STUDENTS SAY IT IS SOMETIMES APPROPRIATE TO SHOUT DOWN OR DISRUPT A SPEAKER ON CAMPUS.
-38% of undergraduates favor speech codes.
-53%, says they often feel intimidated sharing their ideas, opinions or beliefs in class because they were different than those of their professors; 54%, says they also feel intimidated sharing their ideas, opinions or beliefs in class because they were different than those of their classmates.
-52%, say they have had professors or course instructors that have used class time to express their own beliefs that are unrelated to the course material.
-53%, say professors have changed their mind on an issue after they heard their perspective.
(Keep in mind nearly all professors are leftwing.)
-59%, agree their school should forbid people from speaking on campus who have a history of engaging in hate speech.
(Keep in mind what has been defined as hate speech. Disagreeing with a peer is hate speech.)
-33%, believe that physical violence can be justified to prevent a person from using hate speech or making racially charged comments.
-62%, agree that social media companies should censor hate speech by shutting down the accounts of users who engage in hate speech.
(Saying you believe genitals define gender is hate speech.)
-9% say the primary purpose of higher education is to promote social justice.
-33%, have attended a rally or protest in the last two years that advocated for a particular political cause.
Ouch. The only “good” news is actually a surprisingly low percentage of bad: “9% say the primary purpose of higher education is to promote social justice.” I’d have guessed a higher number.
Our ed system has been hijacked by traitors. This is the result.
“53% say professors have changed their mind on an issue after they heard their perspective”.
So did the students change their minds on an issue after they heard the professor’s perspective, or did the professors change their minds on an issue after they heard the student’s perspective? Or was it a combination of both possibilities?
Inquiring mimes want to know.
🙂
I had a world history professor (who reminded me of Steve Martin) at DePaul University in the late 70’s who changed my mind. We had to view historical events from different points of view. What a concept! The fall of Rome, the Russian Revolution . . . He’d be run out on a rail today.
And the leftists want tax payer money (you and me) to pay for ‘free’ college.
We’ve swallowed Marxism for about 100 years. And now, a majority of our 20 year-old kids start out life as good little Communists.
Have had a bad opinion of Ivy League for almost 65 years. Reinforced by the 2 UNIPARTY Presidents starting this century. Never wanted to go, do not want my grandkids going to an Obama/Bush college!
Just look at what Bill Ayers has been doing all these years since the days of the weather underground. Working with the Ford Foundation and other large charitable organizations he’s been heavily involved in the public school curriculum from grade school on up. Any surprise our public schools are turning out compliant little Marxists?
Those that should have done something about this stood by and watched.
Our educational system, creating good little SJWs by the tens of thousands each year. What a waste of time, effort, money and potential.
