WFB: National Security Adviser John Bolton said Monday that some generals in the Venezuelan military have made contact with supporters of Venezuela’s National Assembly, whose leader, Juan Guaidó, named himself interim president in opposition to socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro.
“Our assessment based on numerous contacts on the ground is that the rank and file of the Venezuelan military is acutely aware of the desperate economic conditions in the country,” Bolton told reporters at a White House press briefing. “We think they look for ways to support the National Assembly government. We think the junior officer ranks and the mid-level officer ranks are the same.”
“We’re also aware of significant contacts between general officers of the Venezuelan military and supporters of the National Assembly,” Bolton added. “So you may have seen a statement last week by the defense minister, Vladimir Padrino, flanked by a number of generals in uniform. What they didn’t know was how many of them were already talking to the National Assembly.”
Bolton and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced new sanctions against Venezuela’s state-owned oil company PDVSA. The company’s subsidiary, Citgo, which is based in the United States, is allowed to continue operations, but its earnings must be placed in a blocked account. more here
Bolton is a smart guy, but wouldn’t this be similar to saying “Members of the German military, including high ranking officers, are planning to take action against Hitler” in June 1944?
Here’s Maduro’s big Fing problem. Venezuela is oil rich. They export a shit load of oil to us, China, and Russia. Maduro promised the good citizens if he were to be elected everyone could retire and he would send them oil money. Hey, who wants to work. So they voted the big turd in. Being the shorted sited Marxist he is, he padded the military leaders bank accounts as wee as his. The good citizens, not so much. So the military has been protecting his ass. The big problem is, China and Russia made huge loans to this ass bite. Those two countries don’t exchange money for oil, they just reduce the debt. The only country that actually pays them new money for oil is the USA. And that ended a while ago. Oops. Our problem is the Ruskies want to protect their investment. And mean while it looks like we’re send 5000 Marines there to evacuate our peeps. Could be fun. But these military type people contacting us are just as evil as Maduro. Don’t deal with any of them.
In these situations, the police and military are enemies of the people and viable targets.
