City Council Resolution Formally Declares Los Angeles a ‘Sanctuary City’

BREITBART: The Los Angeles City Council formally approved a resolution Friday declaring the City of Angels a “sanctuary city” for illegal aliens.

The council unanimously passed the resolution in a 12-0 vote, formally declaring Los Angeles “a city of sanctuary” for those residing in the U.S. illegally “who have been under attack in this Trump era,” CBS Los Angeles reported.

“We declare, for all those who have been under attack in this Trump era, that this city, in this day, in this time, will be a city of sanctuary,” City Councilman Gil Cedillo said. “It will be a place where people will know that they will be judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin, and not by who they choose to love, and not by when they got here. They will be judged by their contributions to our city.”

The council’s non-binding resolution was more of a symbolic gesture, as it does not change the city’s laws.

But the resolution did allow the city to create a commission tasked with investigating civil rights violations and imposing a $125,000 to $250,000 fine on those who commit acts of violence or harassment.

Friday’s resolution made Los Angeles’s sanctuary city status official, but the Los Angeles Police Department has had longstanding sanctuary policies on the books.

  1. Nothing but a cheap political stunt. This is more about Trump than illegals. Dont you wish there were local governments that were just as forgiving to those unwilling to pay taxes?

  2. “It will be a place where people will know that they will be judged by the content of their character…..”

Hmmm. They’re felons who have violated our laws by invading this Country, ILLEGALLY, defrauding taxpayers of hundreds of billions through welfare, sec. 8, and the list goes on, ILLEGALLY, fraudulently stealing and using citizens identities, ILLEGALLY, committing murder, rape, robbery and multitudes of other crimes, ILLEGALLY. Yes by all means give this SCUM Sanctuary you pathetic bottom-feeders. One day, I think soon, you will experience a retribution of near Biblical proportion. Until that moment arrives, sleep well.

As an aside, do we still have any Neutron bombs in our Just-in-Case Supply?

  3. “The resolution reaffirms the city’s position that enforcement of federal immigration law is a function solely delegated to the U.S Congress by the U.S. Constitution, and any local resources used to enforce federal immigration law would be unconstitutional.”

What I think they’re saying in short is illegals win, citizens lose.

CA clearly believes that illegal immigration does not exist.

  4. The foundational principle of the Civil War was: Where the Constitution is silent, it (whatever the idea might be) is forbidden.
The Constitution prescribed how a State joined the Union, but was silent on how a State could leave the Union.
Thus: Secession was deemed “un-Constitutional” and an act of War.

Roughly 700,000 Americans died because of this interpretation.

So, is the principle valid? The blood of ~700,000 says “yes.”

How does the Constitution address shoveling money to various States and Cities?
Taking (by Force, or threat of Force) from some to curry favor with others?

It is Silent. Thus, by the logic and blood of the Civil War, it is forbidden.
Why does it continue? Each State has a perfect right to flounder in its own imbecilities, but it is NOT incumbent upon the rest of us to support those imbecilities. In fact, from the lessons of the past, it is forbidden to force the rest of us to support those imbecilities.

By right, these fools should be left to “stew in their own juices” (Chicago, New York, Boston, San Francisco, Oakland, St. Louis, St. Paul, Memphis, Kansas City, Seattle, Portland, &c., &c., &c.).

There is, simply, no Constitutional imperative to take from those who work and distribute it to those who befoul themselves (including the $220Trillion in “unfunded” liabilities).

  5. I find it strange that they are so immune to reality, the crime, the litter, the homelessness, the poop…..

The present typhoid epidemic in the city is likely to require the replacement of all the carpets in City Hall. Don’t they know City Hall?

Earlier this week, an entire courtroom had to be evacuated — prisoners, guards, court personnel, the public — evacuated (and fumigated?) when a man (a *lawyer*, I believe) entered the courtroom covered in bedbugs! Yesh! ….not just an I-think-I’ll-move-to-a-new-row-in-this-courtroom but a kind of screaming evacuation of the whole place.

I have not visited LA or SF in a long time, but, from what I read, I envision a Bladerunner environment only dirtier, much worse.

Whatever are they angling to achieve, I wonder. Is George Soros paying officials off, to endure this? ….Lady in Red

  6. Trump ought to start closing Los Angeles Federal Offices and functions and transfer them to California cities that enforce Federal law. I’m sure that some left judge would try to stop it but the move would not be subject to judicial approval as there isn’t a law against an employer redistributing his jobs elsewhere to protect his staff. Besides, if a judge issues a restraining order just ignore it.
