Texas State Rep Sponsors Bill Requiring Photos on EBT Cards

Breitbart: A Texas state representative is looking to combat food stamp fraud by sponsoring a bill which would require the state’s health and human service commission to add names and photos to state identification cards for food stamp users.

Rep. Dade Phelan (R-Beaumont) introduced legislation that would task the Texas Health and Human Service Commission with adding photos and names of each food stamp recipient on “Lone Star Cards,” which are the state’s Electronic Transfer Benefit (EBT) cards used to provide food stamp benefits to those in need.

The state ID cards give food stamp users access to government welfare programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).

The bill would also require the state to have greater oversight over how often state residents apply for new benefit cards as a way to cut down on fraud in the state food stamp program.

Phelan said he introduced the bill because food stamp fraud in the state is commonplace, adding that the most common fraud cases in the state occur when benefit recipients exchange their state benefit cards and PIN numbers for cash at convenience stores.  more

  1. If I must show a picture ID to PURCHASE a weapon, or booze, then it cannot be too burdensome for them to need a pic to receive their FREE SHIT.

I don’t have a choice, they do; they can work and earn dinner like I do.

  2. While we’re on a roll, time for Body Mass Index (BMI) checks too. Infuriating to see grossly obese Obama daughters pushing overflowing grocery carts full of fattening snacks and paying for them with several different EBT cards.

  3. Do away with the cards altogether and re-establish soup kitchens…. If these people are incapable of making the correct choices in order to survive, why the hell would the gubmint assume that they will make the correct choices with their free shiite.

  4. @Crackerbaby – theres a soup kitchen a few blocks from me run by a church. I’ve passed by there enough times to start recognizing alot of the people from there. I see those same scab covered methheads and just plain UNWILLING TO WORK people in the area grocery stores pushing carts full of soda, junk food and boxes of crablegs around the beginning of every month. Pisses me off!
