Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) kicked off his presidential campaign last week but on Monday was unable to name any legislation he’s passed to help black Americans.
On “The Breakfast Club” radio show, co-host Charlemagne tha God asked Sanders what he had accomplished for black Americans, and Sanders answered by touting his activism as a student with the Congress of Racial Equality and his presence at the March on Washington. He also pointed out he supported Rev. Jesse Jackson for the Democratic presidential nomination in 1988.
“I was one of the few white public officials who supported Jesse Jackson for president of the United States, and he ended up winning Vermont,” Sanders said. “I think if you look at my record in terms of civil rights and other areas, you’ll find that it is consistently a very, very strong record.”
“Any legislation you can point to?” asked Charlemagne tha God.
After a pause, Sanders said he’d passed laws that help working people generally.
“Well, legislation that benefits African Americans, yeah, we—but not specifically—we passed legislation that benefits working people, sure,” Sanders said. He did not cite any specifics.
Asked about putting a person of color on his presidential ticket, Sanders said he couldn’t be sure.
“If you had to pick a person of color to be your running mate, who would it be?” Charlemagne tha God asked.
“Too early to say,” Sanders replied. “Much too early.” more here
One thing that Bernie said that was correct is that it is much too early for him to be picking running mates.

A good research project for someone would be to list any bills Bernie has gotten passed and what the results of them have been (especially the cost to taxpayers).
Standard Communist Party response. The CPUSA always saw Negroes as the means of destroying America from within, because they were the weak link in the unity of this country. That’s why they infiltrated Martin Luther King’s inner circle. Colored people were an exploitable minority, not really meant to be equals. Bernie Sanders has so many followers these days who never heard of the Soviet Union that his early love affair with communism doesn’t mean much to most of them. He’s still exploiting colored people by pretending to consider one for his running mate.
The best thing Bernie Sanders can do for American blacks is to retire, go back to Vermont, and talk to his cats.

I’m no Sanders supporter, but if some legislation “benefits” some “group,” as opposed to other “groups,” it is NOT fair and consistent legislation.
All Legislation should be color blind. And “group” blind. If what benefits all is the aim, then what benefits some is contrary to that aim.
For instance, if we eliminated ALL income taxes, there would be no disproportional impact – except to parasites – and that at a remove (grubbing the crumbs that fall out of the mouths of the politicians and their cronies). Most lobbying would cease.
What’s good for America is, by definition, good for American negroes.
Sanders is a greedy, lazy, hateful, would-be tyrannical slob, who would have the FBI, CIA, and NSA do his dirty work for him.
I’m not aware of any decent legislation that has ever been associated with Sanders.
We’ve heard of Smoot-Hawley, McCain-Feingold, Pell Grants, and various other schemes (of questionable worth), but I can’t think of one that carries the Sanders moniker.
