About that guy who tried to kidnap the girl in a mall

After video footage was viewed her story changed slightly.

Newser

A mother initially said an Egyptian man tried to kidnap her daughter from a West Virginia mall, but he was released from jail after she changed her story the following day. The mother and 5-year-old were shopping at Old Navy in the Huntington Mall in Barboursville on Monday night when the incident unfolded; police say it appears the whole thing was spurred by Mohamed Fathy Hussein Zayan patting the child’s head, leading to a “cultural misunderstanding.” The girl’s mother initially told police Zayan tried to drag her daughter away by the hair and she pulled out a gun to scare him off, WSAZ reports.

Zayan, 54, was charged with attempted abduction and jailed on a $200,000 bond. But no witnesses to the alleged incident could be found, and video surveillance appeared to show a different story, police say, per WOWK. During a subsequent interview, the mother admitted she may have misinterpreted the situation and overreacted.

  1. Umm, smell cover-up much? You can’t misinterpret “grabbed by the hair and dragged away” as a pat on the head. No cultural differences in that. And the police can’t confirm if a firearm was involved or not? WT actual phuck is going on in WV?

  2. I have a feeling we’ll be hearing about the nice Egyptian man again, and next time, he’ll have gotten further along than a head pat. Having said that, it seems to me that young parents with little ones are aggressively expanding safe spaces for their tykes. I never speed through residential neighborhoods, ever. I taught my teens to never do that, either. But the rows of plastic turtles, the “Drive Like Your Kids Live Here” signs, the parents at the curb playing air piano, when I’m doing 20mph, is a bit much. Get a grip, parents.

  3. Why would anyone think it is okay to reach out and pat a stranger? Keep your hands to yourself, it isn’t that hard. And eeeeeww! A muzzie touching someone? Yuck! Did he use his ass wiping hand or the other one?

  4. Now poor ol’ Abdul is gonna understand why many US men cross the street to the other side when they see a group of kids coming. Asshole drama queen bitches want to star in a melodrama dreamed up inside their own half-baked skulls, and they’ve got you lined up to star as the bad guy, just for being in the vicinity.

  5. Just patted?

    Amateur.

Take a deep, heady whiff of that tawny toddler mane. Hoo boy, there’s nothing like it. My plugs cover up the purse scars from doing it to other women’s kids but man, is it worth it.

    Vote for me.

  6. Uh oh. Mom and daughter should have said they identify as Hmong. Who believe the soul rest on top of the head, and it’s bad luck to touch someone there, especially children.

Remember negative reaction in the scene in Gran Torino when Walt pats the Hmong child on the head? Now how would that have looked and changed the story if Walt had been hauled off to the slammer?
