  1. You folks older than I can correct me on this. I was about 10 when the revolution happened and I vaguely recall the U.S. media making the Shah out to be a monster deposed by freedom loving Iranians. That’s the implication I recall getting but you all tell me if I’m remembering that wrong (since, no doubt, that’s the spin they put on such things today, maybe I’m transposing it).

  2. No, you are right. The press made the Shah out
    to be a bloody handed tyrant. Pictures of his
    sunglasses wearing security agents (Savak?)
    were constantly in almost every story. It was so
    bad that when after leaving Iran he needed cancer treatments here in America the press hounded him
    out like the dogs they had become, even back then.

  4. …the only way to keep a lid on Islamist is by being as tyrannical as Mohammad was. Power is the only thing they understand. You can’t reason with them, they are too inbred, too violent, and too steeped in a death cult to have civilized discussions with, and they would have to deny the basic tenant of Islam to let others live in peace anyway, so it’s a non-starter.

    You can only kill enough of them to make the rest back off. Nothing else works.

    This is why the Shah was easily depicted as despotic, it’s not like he could have a calm discussion with them in a paneled board room. This is also why Libya was under control after Reagan killed Kaddáfí’s son in a bombing raid, because that made HIM respect OUR power, and he in turn exerted all his force to keep the Islamists from overrunning him. Hillary had to go knock him off with no backup plan, though, so here we are…

    …Not saying tyranny is a good thing. Just saying the only thing that controls Islam is force. Anything less than a demonstration of power, and you end up becoming the subjects of a new caliphate, and it’s off to the chopping block with you as soon as your new beardy overlords can make the arrangements…unless you’re good slave material, of course…

  6. Fight Sharia everywhere it’s found. Use bats, clubs or whatever you need but fight them until it’s adherents are broken and bloody and no longer want to fight again. Publish their names and hound them until they move out of the country to Iran, or Saudi Arabia, or Malaysia or Yemen and then isolate those countries. Take in there refugees that no longer wish to live under Sharia and the yoke of Islam.

  8. I actually saw The Shah once on board the USS Kitty Hawk CV 63 in the Spring of 1974 when we were in the Persian Gulf and put on an airshow for him. The reason The Shah was made out to be a bad guy was because of Jimmy Carter and his flawed view of human rights violations. We deposed him because we thought he was such a bad guy and replaced him with the Ayatollah Khomenei who we didn’t know at the time was worse because Carter and the State Dept. thought he would be a moderating influence on Iran. The US Govt. was even selling the Shah brand new F-14 Tomcats at the time in the mid 70’s. Little good it did them after the Ayatollah took over and the Iranians couldn’t maintain the F-14’s we’d sold to them. Mr. Peanut and his self righteous emphasis on human rights violations are what got us into this mess.
