  1. Wow, Mama Fox doesn’t look happy. Great photos, all☺

Thanks for the Sunday lift, Claudia!

I’m always saying “Hey, you Opossums! Get off my lawn!”

  2. One of the things I find interesting about possums is how easy it is to identify individual ones while I’m trapping.

I often use trail cams to see what I’m after and how many.

It’s no challenge to see the differences between them, as opposed to, say, squirrels.

This one here has sharp markings, a nice healthy coat, and a well fed (but not fat) young adult-sized body. They can get much much bigger and obviously older looking than this one.

I guarantee you no other possum around it will look exactly like it.

When I have several show up in my recordings, it’s very easy to tell them apart. From crooked tails, skinny, fat, light/dark markings, scruffy/luxurious coats, puffy faces, pregnant, flea-bitten, a limp, certain behaviors, and, often, some kind of damage showing.

A few years back I had closed off an opening but left cameras inside and out in place to see if something was trapped and trying to get out. A young pregnant one that was ready to drop her litter came by and was confused the opening wasn’t there any more. She made a great profile pose in one segment. Her belly was scraping the ground and you could see the movement of her babies in her.

I do believe if I had waited another day to close it off she would have dropped that litter under the home and the job would have gone on longer until she removed them herself.

    Thanks, Claudia.

  3. An adolescent possum followed my cat right into the house the other night after I opened the door for her and continued chatting on the phone, not paying attention. He followed her right through the living room, into the kitchen, and started eating her dinner. Such a cute little moocher I didn’t have the heart to chase him out.
