Flag Day Gets No Respect

Ammo-
Flag Day was once called the “runty stepchild among American national holidays” by the New York Times. While it may not be the grandest of our country’s celebrations, it’s impossible to talk about Flag Day without briefly discussing why Old Glory was originally created, and what it means today. We may know the flag as a strong symbol of patriotism, but at the time of the American Revolution, it had a much more pragmatic purpose: It existed to distinguish the American military forces from the British.

  1. The ELK fraternal order still
    respects flag day

But of course maybe the ELKS
    are old fashioned

    OR

    Maybe the ELKS are patriotic
    Something that strangely is
    uncommon nowadays.

    Perhaps we should thank
    Colonoscopy Paperdick
    for todays current feelings.

  3. I have one on the motorcycle, and it will be out in clear view of everyone who sees me out today.
I agree with the previous comments as well, I have one at the house which is always out, and it will be replaced with a newer, cleaner one today.
I will be celebrating with a BBQ this weekend. It won’t be a 3-day weekend, but it should be, second only to July 4.

  4. Eleanor tried to get me to change “Flag Day” to “United Nations Flag Day” in 1942.
I did and it was soundly rejected by the American people.

    Moral: “Don’t f- with tradition.”
