NEWSER) – If pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong had hoped for a celebrity endorsement, Jackie Chan’s not their man. The martial arts star and actor spoke up about the recent demonstrations in his birthplace, and he doesn’t seem inspired by the protesters, calling the protests “sad” and “depressing,” per the Express. The 65-year-old Chan told media outlet CGTN that “I wanted to express the most basic principles of patriotism as a Hong Kong citizen and a Chinese” and that “Hong Kong and China are my birthplaces and my home. China is my country, I love my country. … I hope that Hong Kong can return to peace soon.” Some weren’t happy about those sentiments from Chan, who’s made controversial remarks about the topic before. In 2009, for example, Chan said of the pro-democracy movement, “I’m not sure if it’s good to have freedom or not. … If you’re too free, you’re like the way Hong Kong is now. It’s very chaotic,” the South China Morning Post reports.
“Hong Kong hates you” and “shameless” were just two online reactions to Chan, who the Post says is a member of a Beijing legislative advisory body mainly made up of members of the Chinese Communist Party.
Well if we can teach the people of Hong Kong anything. It might as well be that actors suck at politics.
Well, you obviously can’t go back to British rule, since they insist on importing muslim savages* to destroy every fucking thing they touch.
*Sorry, redundant.
jackie may have been born in Hong Kong, but he is now Hollywood to the core.
Chan has always been a tool of the Communist dictatorship.
Freedom is too chaotic. He prefers the consistency of oppression.
He’s part of the communist swamp. Ironic how he played hero characters in movies. He should have played the bad guy.
Pretty sure he was normal until his adult mooch son got caught with reefer a few years back.
He’s not the only popular Chinese actor/actress who’s come out in favor of the Chinese police tactics and communist military massing at Hong Kongs borders.
Seems pretty standard for an oppressive regime to roll out compromised voices of support whenever needed.
I can only hope and pray for Hong Kong….as I’m currently planning the liberation of Greenland from something.
Too many kicks to the head me thinks.
Yep that darn freedom again, can’t be having that.
“I’m not sure if it’s good to have freedom or not.” This statement, and the fact he was born in a foreign country, now qualifies Jackie to run for President as a democrat.
Freedom and civil society require, some modicum of morality, Truth (education) and responsibility as well as a desire to be free. Some are actually more comfortable not……
“Speaking the truth in times of universal deceit is a revolutionary act.” Geo. Orwell
He sounds like someone who still needs a job…
He’s very patriotic, except when it comes to the country he resides in and that allowed him all of the success he’s seen. He’s never uttered a decent work about the US because he’s a ungrateful scumbag leftist.
Enjoyed his movies.
He suffers the same disease as most other movie actors since Charlie Chaplain.
A movie is a very “controlled” environment. Actors embrace that control. The fact and degree of that control is what makes the movie a success or not.
So, being controlled is integral to their craft.
Part of their being, so to speak.
One would expect them to extol the virtues of slavery.
izlamo delenda est …
Chan said, “I’m a Chinese…”
No, he’s a Chinaman or a Chink; take your pick

Is the Chan man still in the US of A or is he back in Hong Kong getting ready to martial arts some Hong Kongers for the Chi-Coms?
@Cliche Guevara – Yep. He’s just welcoming his new Overlords.
And protecting his bank account.
Yeah, I read somewhere a few weeks ago the JC thought Americans have to much freedom and chicom rule was better.
But then I wondered does JC really believe that BS or is JC perhaps in the same trap of entertainers in NYC or Vegas in the old days, who had to play nice with mafia bosses or end up dead or at minimum out of the entertainment biz as a way to make a living.
The chicoms probably figure famous people make even better chilling examples, and Jackie knows it.
They’d run him over with a tank, too.
A few years ago he praised the regime in North Korea so what would you expect.
