Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang’s “freedom dividend” free money raffle has raised questions of legality, but the watchdog tasked with overseeing campaign finance issues, the Federal Election Commission, is hamstrung.
Even if Yang’s program, which entails giving $1,000 a month for a year to 10 families, actually breaks the law, not much can be done about it, since there is no one to hold his campaign accountable, multiple campaign finance experts told the Washington Examiner.
“I think Andrew Yang is part of a trend of the FEC being dysfunctional and campaigns getting away with things, a general willingness to skirt the law,” former FEC Commissioner Ann Ravel told the Washington Examiner. “Because there will be no consequences for them from the FEC.”
The FEC, an independent bipartisan regulatory agency, lacks the quorum of four commissioners present it needs to fulfill its responsibilities in their entirety. He hasn’t done it yet and will there really be 10 families identified that will receive the money or is this Yang’s attempt to get everyone to sign up so they go to his donation page and get his campaign emails. And then pull the rug out at some point and say oh I was going to do it but can’t.

…yes, I know, and he will likely never have the OPPORTUNITY to do it, but it’s still disheartening that Democrats feel so secure that they can announce lawless intentions AHEAD of time with no repercussions, and that Federal agencies feel THEY need to get out in front to assure the Democrats (and put US on notice) that nothing will be done about their lawlessness, ANYWAY…
We could fix that FEC hamstring real quick. Just get Trump to try it. Forceful, instantaneous FEC action, with close air support from federal judges would be the result.

Lois Lerner left the FEC for the IRS. I’m sure her replacement and any/all replacements after that were properly vetted.
I read somewhere yesterday that 500,000 people signed up for the chance to win. He collected over 1 million dollars in just a few hours after the announcement.
They better do something. He can drop out now and have a hefty bank account. Until the next election when he will do it again.

On other things, bribery, fraud, lotteries, election meddling, etc. are still crimes and there are law enforcement agencies other than the FEC.
The FEC can’t do anything but the DOJ could.
