Did a refrigerator help save these teens?

  1. people don’t realize how heavy a weight a tree is … whether your house is stick or brick, tree usually wins

otoh … down in my neck of the woods we tend to laugh & make fun of the Lusbians … glad those kids are safe though

  2. & … what must it be like to know that you are being observed 24/7 while you are at home?

    … I mean, besides being a google/amazon/samsung/facebook wet dream

  3. That happened to my home during Hurricane Rita. There was a young couple with their nine month old baby in the room where it entered. Thank God they were all OK. The house was another matter.

  4. Just had one this year fall on our shop. Thankfully it only caught the corner, but two limbs went through the roof.
Didn’t have any cameras recording it though, just don’t understand why people need to be watched and heard even in the privacy of their home.

  5. We had a huge wind storm this past July. On my little 2 acres I lost almost thirty oaks as large as that one, some larger. I’m still cutting and splitting wood.

  6. Until last week I had two large maple trees close to my house in my back yard that were last topped about 20 years ago & they had become quite tall. Every time a wind storm occurred I would think – I hope I don’t regret not spending the money to have them taken down earlier. Quotes for having them topped were always higher than I had extra cash to pay. Usually around $1,200. The last wind storm was so scary I was motivated to take action before what happened in the video happened to may home.

I had them taken down last week for $600 by a couple of loggers. But it has been left up to me to finish cutting up the trees. Been busy for a several days with heavy duty limb shears & my Silky saws. Pleasant work, but now I am nearing the point where all that is left will be better done with a chain saw. No takers thus far by someone wanting it for fire wood. Apparently maple is not a preferred fire wood.

What was the brand of refrigerator?

  7. I had a maple in my front yard that was making me nervous. I bought a pole saw and trimmed it down to a tall stump. I stood in the back of a pickup, and cut off 10′ at a time, 90 degrees around the tree from me, 10′ avoid kickbacks – were the tip hits, driving the near end of the cut towards the tree.

the limbs were surprisingly brittle, they didn’t so much sag and crack like a pine would – cut to a certain point and boom, down they came. Glad I got rid of it, though kind of tedious cutting small pieces off.

I did some from a ladder, but mostly preferred being on the ground so I could run away. Used a rope saw to get some of the higher branches, but mostly was able to cut multiple notches with the pole saw.

  8. @o blo – please do not trim trees from a ladder. Very dangerous. Four years ago a distant cousin (our great grandmothers were sisters) fell from a ladder trimming trees in his yard and died. The logging tree cutters who took down my trees when discussing the options of taking down a tree or topping it also mentioned how dangerous standing on a ladder is when trimming trees. Lose your balance and there is nothing to grab onto. That’s why arborist use things like whoopie slings and looper slings attached to secure points on the tree.
