Trump pardons service members involved in war crimes cases

Breitbart:

Nov. 15 (UPI) — President Donald Trump on Friday pardoned two service members and restored the rank of a third who was convicted of posing in a photo with a dead Islamic State fighter.

In a statement announcing the interventions, the White House praised the military justice system for instilling discipline in the armed forces.

“The president, as commander-in-chief, is ultimately responsible for ensuring that the law is enforced and when appropriate, that mercy is granted,” the statement read. “For more than two hundred years, presidents have used their authority to offer second chances to deserving individuals, including those in uniform who have served our country.

“These actions are in keeping with this long history. As the president has stated, ‘when our soldiers have to fight for our country, I want to give them the confidence to fight.’” read more

  1. Listen to Barr’s recent speech at the Federalist Society. Since the oblowme administration, the American justice system now applies to activities our military are involved in. Another way in which the judicial and legislative branches have conspired to take out the executive.

  2. I hope the active duty folks are watching this unfold. It’s the first time in over two decades that they have someone in the White House who will actually watch their backs and ensure they are not railroaded for political reasons.

“Political operatives should never suffer for their political acts.”

Good to see the progs haven’t lost their minds. Yet.

  4. Of course the pack of shitbags DoD bureaucracy didn’t want Trump to do this. Mustn’t upset the unelected deskriding paddlefoot cunts who think they run this country. Guess they’ll start “whistleblowing” now.

“Each good man pardoned and made whole”

I get the sentiment but these men were not “made whole”. One had already served 6 years in prison. To me “made whole” means monetary compensation for time already served, all records expunged and all 3 properly placed back into their career path of promotion; none of these will happen. All 3 were career military who envisioned a career of service with appropriate rank commensurate with abilities, that is out the window now.

In a perfect world, career military would be tried by a jury of their peers, made up of other career military of similar branch and service, with zero political considerations from deep state functionaries with an ax to grind, we aren’t there.

  6. Not a moment to soon. President Trump probably had to get ducks in a row to strategically make these pardons happen. So glad he found a way. This will definitely increase troop morale.
