Just because we pointed out that Buttigeig looks just like Topo Gigio, we didn’t mean to sully the Italian mouse’s image. I’d vote for him before Mayor Pete.
In fact, Topo Gigio was an amazing puppeteering feat. 5 people were involved in making this happen. 4 puppeteers and a voice over man.
The puppeteers were dressed in black and stood in a velvet light deadening box. They manipulated black dowels that were able to give Topo an amazing amount of movement and expression.
“kiss me goodnight.” So he got a little action from Ed Sullivan.
I remember Topo’s & Edddie’s conversations. Great side act.

Thank you for posting this clip – brought back very good memories from the mid-60’s. On Sunday nights, after dinner, my parents and family would watch “The Wonderful World of Disney” and then at 8:00 pm., “The Ed Sullivan Show”. There were only 2 TV channels then.
Do you think the rosy cheeks on Topo Gigio are caused by drinking Pinot Grigio?

I loved Topo Gigio. He was the coolest. I guess I missed the whole disparage thingy…. that’s ok. He, the ‘B’ guy, DOES resemble him. Very funny! I never made that connection. Well done. 🙂

Aww, I remember Topo Gigio. One of my favorite Ed Sullivan Show acts. Brings back good memories. “How dare you” compare Buttgag to a sweet puppet I adored from my childhood. Topo was wonderful.

I never really liked or disliked the act when they were on the Ed Sullivan Show. My Mother, on the other hand, just loved it. I hadn’t thought of her in far too long and this brought back memories of her laughing at that chubby little mouse. Thanks Fur.
