See What Happens When Two Carnival Cruise Ships Barely Tap Each Other

As you watch this unfold, try to imagine what kind of damage this love tap could cause-

Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he’s got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it.

  1. Someone is in TROUBLE. Can you imagine all the proximity alerts that must have been going off for hours in the bridge before that happened? The boys back at the office are going to be asking “where in the hell was the captain?- uh, check that, where in the hell was the former captain?”

  2. What was the last thing Captain Hazelwood said while he was still captain on the Exxon Valdez?

“Goddamnit, I said rum and coke on the rocks, not rub the boat on the rocks!”

  3. Carnival Cruise Lines. Heh, you get what you pay for. Lowest price “stateroom” for a 3-day LA to Ensenada cruise is deep in steerage right next to the ship’s morgue. Yes, they have morgues.

  4. Carnival Glory - 110,000 tons
    Carnival Legend - 88,500 tons

Something’s gotta give when it’s even a little bitty bump if it involves 397,000,000 moving pounds.

Duct tape? Come-along, body hammers and dollies? Fooey!
Only one way to fix that: Quick! Call the lawyers!

  5. We had an emergency breakaway one time between the USS Kitty Hawk CV 63 and a fuel tanker in the Pacific Ocean in 1974. A rogue wave slammed the tanker into the starboard (to the right) side of the Kitty Hawk and flattened the catwalk causing an emergency breakaway where they broke away all the fuel lines from the tanker to the aircraft carrier. Anyone who would would’ve been on that catwalk would’ve been killed and fortunately no one was hurt, luckily they were able to pull the ships apart in time with minimal damage to either ship but it was a scary moment. Anything can happen on the high seas that is unexpected and does happen occasionally even with the best of training.

  6. That much moving mass is going to cause a helluva lot of damage wherever it strikes. How the hell did three huge cruise ships get that close together in the first place.

  7. Could have been worse. Another online video shows that moments later the Carnival Glory just barely missed hitting a second docked ship, the Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas, which is probably where the video was shot from. Probably accounting for the comment heard, “Don’t ride on Carnival”. A strong beam wind may have contributed to the collision. There’s a lot of sail area to catch the wind.
