Vegan Florida parents Ryan Patrick O’Leary, 30, and Sheila O’Leary, 35, have been charged with first-degree murder for starving their 18-month-old son to death by refusing to feed him anything but raw fruits and vegetables.

They have also been charged with aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter, child abuse and two counts of child neglect by a grand jury in Lee County, Florida.

According to a police report, the toddler only weighed 17 pounds when he died, the approximate appropriate weight for a child less than half his age. More

  1. The article didn’t why they are vegans, but my guess is that it’s either a case of animal rights murder or climate change murder, not that it makes a lick of difference.

  2. @AnswermanC — You make a very good, ironic point. Also, this is sorta scary because they look like your average product of a U.S. gov’t school education. Thirty and thirty-five years old and zero curiosity about the effects of an inadequate diet on the health of growing children. They had three other kids, didn’t they notice their baby wasn’t thriving?

    ……3 other children?

So you don’t have to follow the clicks…

“State Attorney Amira Fox said the charges the couple face also cover the alleged treatment of their three other children, who are said to have suffered from child abuse and extreme neglect.

They have a three and a five-year-old child who are now in state custody, while an 11-year-old is in the care of her biological father, NBC News reports.”

  4. Soooo … how does this differ from post-partum abortion (which is legal in Virginia and some other places)?

Sure sounds like discriminative prosecution of vegans …
